I've gone through the process of modifying and flashing the bios of my last GPU and it took far longer than I expected. Since I've upgraded to a newer card within the last year, is there a simpler way to permanently adjust my GPU fan speeds so that it doesn't just run at 40% constantly in Lion? I've thought about doing a Virtual Machine but if I recall correctly, that probably won't recognize my GPU in full capacity.

Any suggestions?

YOUR SMBIOS.plist is the key.

AppleGraphicsPowerManagement.kext will apply GPU speedsteps according to which MacModel it is.

MacModel on Hackintosh is simply the SMBIOS file in /Extra.

The fanspeeds are written in the info.plist inside the kext - all MacBook, MacBookPro, IMacs etc. Those that come shipped with Ati (code 1002) or Nvidia (code 10de) have more then one setting, if either one of the cards is found it will be applied.

For example : iMac 10,1 - 11,1 = Ati Mobility 4xxx series, so for Laptop/Desktop with card of this series set SMBIOS to such a MacModel that is closest to your hardware config.

You need to reasearch which Mac would best fit your real hardware. I recommend "MacTracker" app , its a free database for all macs ever made. Based on the infos you gather, you can construct a SMBIOS file for your needs.
