I am looking to build a Snow Leopard hackingtosh.

I have an Asus 8800 GT 512 graphics card.

I have looked through the forum for a motherboard that will install on SL and Lion.

Gigabyte GA-G41M-ES2L and GA-G31M-E2SL both are reported by the wiki HCL 10.6.x/10.7.0 to work on Snow Leopard and Lion.

So which one allows more onboard components to work?

Certainly the G41 can support 8GB of RAM but the G31 can use 1066Mhz memory vs the 800Mhz of the G41, not that this is likely to make a lot of difference.

I'm not sure is members here got the NIC and sound to work.

Do I buy the standard Snow Leopard from the Apple Store website?

http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573Z/A

I have so far tried to get a Dell SC420 to work using Hazard 10.1.1i, and it installs OK but reboots as far as the white screen with the apple logo before kernel panic.

I'm not sure if the Dell SC420 with is Celeron CPU will work in SL.

Hi XLR,

In this price range there's GA-G41MT-ES2L rev1.3 that supports DDR3. (RTL8111E and ALC888B)

Thanks for the info. The MT board is not available in the UK from any main supplier.

Looks like its discontinued.

I do like the idea of DDR3 as its a lower cost memory and useable on higher spec motherboards.

GA-G41MT-S2P is available though.

Cheers

Meggerman
