Next installment of the OSX saga...(See my earlier topic)

I found a Netgear FA331 and 113 network card which is suppose to be compatible with X86, installed it and..... nothing...... Downloaded a set of drivers that I found for the chipset.. and wait for it.... still nothing, tried re-seating the card and still nothing....mmm... head ache time.

Decided to reinstall osx to see if that would help. Actually screwed up the entire installation which I thought might happen...

Could I get it installed again? err no... everytime I tried installing it I got a com.apple.boot.plist error.

After looking on this forum and all the other error discussions I read that it could be a knacker disk image so I reburnt the DVD... no... still the same problem, I thought what have I changed to stop it from working?

Then I realised that I had actually installed the os with a windows xp drive origainlly installed..

I am going to give you the complete tutorial on how I did it, I have now tried this on 3 machines and it really works well..

Here goes....

First of all I had a AMD Sempron 3100 with 512Mb 1 x 80gb (Windoze XP) 1 x 80gb (With a screwed up MBR) that I had to correct with the following..

Boot with a DOS floppy that has "debug" on it; run "debug". At the '-' prompt:

f 9000:0 200 0

(type) a:

mov dx,9000

mov es,dx

xor bx,bx

mov cx,0001

mov dx,0080

mov ax,0301

int 13

int 20

Press <Enter> to exit assembly mode, take a deep breath - and press "g" to execute, then "q" to quit "debug". Your HD is now in a virgin state, and ready for partitioning and installation.

I ran diskpart from within windows with the start/ run command with the following

list disk

select disk [the number of your disk]

create partition primary id=af

exit

Then started diskpart again the same way and typed:

list disk

select disk [the number of your disk]

list partition

select partition [the number of your osx partition]

active (if this doesn’t work, try ’set active’ without quotes)

exit

I then inserted the OSX86 install dvd and rebooted..

Following the installation proceedure and doing the normal skip on bits and bobs that I didn't need... i.e. printer drivers etc..

Upon completion (My installation will just hang at the end when trying to reboot, and thanks to this site and the help I have found that its not a problem, just manually restart) I rebooted the machine which boots straight from the dvd again, I started the installation again but this time on the screen that gives you lang etc, I selected terminal from the drop down menu and typed the following:

diskutil list

fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 <--- this was my disk number that OSX is installed on.

p (which showed the partition that I installed onto)

f 1 (1 being my partition)

write

y

exit.

As you are probably aware the terminal is very unforgiving when it comes to spaces in commands(I have learnt that now lol)

Now what I did next probably sounds well weird but it was a mistake but it worked.

I shut down swapped over the hard drives...i.e. Windows was on primary master with my dvd rom on primary slave and the osx install HDD was on secondary master with no secondary slave.

Took out the install dvd and rebooted...OSX boots up, pressed f8 and went into -s mode...

Thanks to jordanvanbergen's help (I dont now how to link to his posting but thanks dude, your a star)

I typed in mount -uw/

then ls to find my AMD patcher file.

cd Maxxuss.......(or whatever your patche file directory is called

chmod 755 patcher

./patcher cpuid_patches.txt

I found that after the last command it sometimes doesnt patch any or all the files and found that I have to do this series of command a few time for it to patch the lot or at least the ones that need it.

type exit

on exit my machine boots into osx with the welcome screen etc...

This has probably been gobble di gook for all you experts out there but even if a small amount of this helps someone then cool... its thank to this site and all the amazing people that have left posting that I have been able to get osx running at all......

have fun, feel free to reply and tell me how you get on or any questions.

once again sorry if this is a bit long winded but with the help of all of you guys you've made it fun..

Latest installment of my Hackintosh install

10.4.6 is running great, resolution at 1280x1024x32@60....edited com.apple.Boot.plist

also removed the - in Boot graphics to it now starts up with apple grey screen and spinning wheel..(V.Nice)

Network card works a treat.. Netgear fa311 with out patch or drivers.

Its connects perfectly to my G4 PowerBook 1Ghz and I can share files and remote desktop control either.

Loaded MacVidia drivers 7 and 8 and it didnt work for me. It booted up then black screen with message saying "Cannot Display this driver mode"

I am guessing its trying to port the signal through dvi but as my card is a Nvidia FX5500 it doesn't have one.mmmm!!

I had to startup in -s mode and rm the driver file NVidia.kext and although osx reports that this file has not been loaded and couldn't be found on start up it doesnt freeze or hang, just boots up nicely.

Not a major deal as even with the drivers I believe that Quartz wouldnt work anyway so I will wait to see if the wonderful ppl at MacVida can get that working before I try again.

Plugged in a generic cheap Silicon Wave, bluetooth adapter, dongle...OSX saw it, configged it and it works great, sync with my Ericsson 700i and controlled the desktop and apps with the phone

Installed all my ppc apps.. Remote Desktop, iphoto 6 Office, Adobe cs and it all works well, nice and quick

The next thing I will probably try is upgrading my graphics card tomorrow with a compatible one so I can use quartz... Im also pretty certain that thats also the reason that I can't play a dvd..

Many many thanks to everyone on here for all the excellent problem solving on the forums and a thanks to Macvidia for there help..

On a final note, I really do believe that OSX is not happy having to be contained in a frankly bland pc case, I m looking at the moment for a G5 or G4 mdd case that I can mod and slot my mb into...

I can't have the beautiful OSX GUI running on a nice dell tft then look down a see a pc case now can I???? LMAO

I have already plugged my old powermac g4 black keyboard into the machine so it really does feel like a mac.

Anyquestion and I would be very happy to reply also any ideas on my set up or where I can get a case drop me a line

Thanks again to you all,,,, fantasitic site, I couldn't have done it without you all..

octopussy

Just a quick note...

I purchased an ATI 9550 /Saphire graphics card. Edited ATI9700.kext file and added my card id number as guided on this site.

restarted and Core Image and Quartz Extreme works, can watch DVDs, itunes visuals and more..

Can't get the spinning cube on fast user switching but thats just me being picky I think..lol.

I now have a fully functioning hackintosh which works pretty well, all the software I have loaded so far works great.

Still in a crappy pc box but when I can afford it I will be buying a second user imac g5 anyway but at least the pc is not waste with windoze.

Was tempted to buy a better motherboard and processor but to be honest I would rather save the cash for a new mac machine anyway.

Thanks again to all you ppl for your excellent help, if anyone wants to add me via msn and chat about anything please feel free, would be good to hear from you all,
