Hey guys, I just built a system with a p55 classified 200 motherboard (only compatibility issues I have heard of are ethernet, which is ok) an i7 processor, and dual Geforce 9800 GT graphics cards...

My question is not will this work, because I, unlike others looked at the HCL when picking parts...

I have already installed W7 on the 64GB M4 SSD, with a partition of about 30GB, and left another 30GB fat32 partition open and I will set to active when I go ahead with this install...I am using a combination of this thread:

http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-se...-dual-boot.html

and this guide:

Basically I was doing a read through before the install, and I read that I needed to pull the second graphics card (which is fine, because http://digitaldj.net/2009/09/02/snow-leopa...eo-cards-more/) but also that I need to set my sata to ACHI. I have a RAID 1 between 2TB hard drives that I was planning to use as a data volume between both W7 and OS X. Is this just for the install, and I can change it back to raid after it is done, or is this because OS X can not deal with RAID? Is this even a necessary step?

Please inform me if I am using outdated guides, or if I am wrong about my thoughts on anything. Thanks for the help guys. Hope to be installing within the next hour.

ACHI is obligatory for OS X to install and function. So it should be AHCI or OS X will not work (Windows doesn't care that much - it should work either way). Any way if it is an on-board RAID, it will not work in OS X IMO.

Other thing to consider which partition scheme is used on your target disk. Windows uses MBR/GPT(in some cases), while OS X uses GPT. This is quite important thing. However there are few ways around it, so it is still possible. Neither the less I'd recommend using a separate disks for each OS. It is more fail proof option.

No...it isn't. This is a myth. You just need the right driver...and a bit of luck.

On mobos with Intel ICH5, vanilla ICH7 or other ICHx that don't have AHCI mode you can use AppleIntelPIIXATA.kext for example. There's also the JMicronATA and ATAPortInjector.kexts included with Chameleon that will work in some cases, check this out:

Chameleon_r1055_injector_kexts.zip

It's definitely easier to install OS X if you can set AHCI mode but it is not a requirement.

if it is an on-board RAID, it will not work in OS X.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe that if you have a ICHx-R based RAID array with Windows on it you can still install OS X on a third drive that's not part of the RAID array. Also there are some third party PCI-E RAID expansion cards that work with OS X.
