hello all,

i downloaded the prepatched dvd (i think it's 10.4.6) and i burned it to dvd. When i booted from this dvd, i saw the mac os x screen with the apple logo and that thing with the moving stripes. After a few minutes, the comp gave me the message: "SAM Multimedia: read or write failed, ASC = 0x11, ASCQ = 0x00" (without quotes). And it keeps repeating that message.

Is my hardware incompatible or what else is going on here? is it a problem with the ide drive?

Any help would be appreciated.

my machine:

dell dimension 4550

intel pentium 4 @ 2.4 ghz

1 gb ram

hd1: 30 gb, hd2: 250 gb

geforce 4 mx 64 mb vram

<rant>Don't you newbies ever use the Search function of the board? It won't bite you! </rant>

If you had searched for "SAM Multimedia", you would have found the following:

The "SAM Multimedia" error means there is something wrong with the DVD or DVD reader and data is not flowing properly.

Try reburning the DVD at the slowest speed possible and if available, use different brand or type of media (dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw, dvd+rw).

If this doesn't work, then the problem is with the DVD reader. Try updating the firmware or borrow another device from somewhere.
