nution
I have tried about everything I can think of and every search term under the sun, but I am still at a loss. I have the retial 10.6.4 dvd that came with my brothers Mac. I made the image, restored it to a USB drive with GUID selected. Ive tried various bootloaders on top of it but none actually make it though to the installation screen. Is there a specific bootloader or kext package / other file, I should be including in the USB extra or extra/extensions file that will help me get past this? My system had 10.6.6 at one time but my kid did an update on it and I decided to start over from scratch. Not really "decided" as I just have to. I dont remember the method I chose to do it the first time as it had been some months ago. My guess is the 10.6.4 image on the USB is needing some separate kexts, or something the other bootloaders for 10.6 are not providing, but I honestly dont know at this point. ifrit05
If it is a DVD that came with the Mac, then it is a Restore DVD, not a Retail DVD. You can not use the Restore DVD to install OS X from scratch. You can buy the Retail DVD Here. Welcome to InsanelyMac. Well the image it created says Mac OSX Install DVD.dmg and when i put the usb into a mac it brings up the install options - Are you sure it is just a restore one? I dont mind getting a new retail DVD, I actually have one somewhere in my mess of cd's, Its just what I had available at the time I was at his house making the USB drive. ifrit05
OK, you can give it a go then. What is the full model number of the mini? Maybe I can find a guide for you. (i.e. HP-Mini 110-3030NR) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/259162-starting-at-1064-retail-dvd-what-bootloader/#findComment-1696602 Share on other sites
