How to REPAIR OSX PARTITION ?

Hey..

I use SNOW 10.6.7...

Somehow suddenly, Every time I boot my OSx, no matter if into regular mode, single mode or safe mode - at verbos I can see that the OS is ALWAYS checking my HDD for integrity.

It tries to fix it - but it doesn't success to fix it!

It keeps doing the same routine for 3 times, until it loads the OS.(into regular/single/safe mode i choose at darwin screen)

 

I tried to load 10.5.6 installCD, and run disk Disk Management Utility to repair my osx partition - but it doesn't manage to repair it either.

 

I know when using windows - you can basically create "repair disket" , boot to dos, and run whatever command you choose... nowadays i use "hiren's boot cd"... - but it's a toolset for windows/linux environments - not mac with it's HFS+ partition type.

 

Any idea how can i fix it !?

Sounds like it's corrupt. Try reinstalling OS X, it could start causing problems later.

you know what - you're right, I should smash a 10kg JackHammer on my laptop instead...

As I wrote(although less detailed) - I CAN BOOT TO A REGULAR GUI MODE AND WRITE THIS VERY LINE YOU READ.

 

Even if you're serious about what you wrote - still - no BIG thanks...

 

Anybody?? A more realistic less drastic approach is welcome...

I was only giving you advice. Don't cry if things start to mess up on you.

But it probably isn't that big of a deal (PowerPC Mac's were more troublesome when you got these errors (i.e. eMac), it usually meant their HDD's were about to go).

 

Try what MaLd0n said and run it with the "-r" option (it rebuilds the catalog)

 

If that doesn't work, you can try some tools such as DiskWarrior. If that wont fix it, the WIPE your hard drive and reinstall (back up your data). If it happens again, It might mean the HDD itself is starting to die.

I've went into single mode and perform x4 time this command... - no change.

also i've run fsck -fy x3 times as well....

and x2 more times using the same command but under ubuntu... ( after downloading a special command ).

 

I don't know how much what i'm gonna say have anything todo with this problem but -

i've tried and work around a bit with VoodooSDHC, formated a SD card and moved 1 file to it.

What are the chances that it's connected to my fsck problem ??

 

If it happens again, It might mean the HDD itself is starting to die.

My S.M.A.R.T value using disk utility is "Verified" - which i know is meant "good"\"normal" status for my HDD....

I've launch ubuntu & windows 7 after the fsck check, and they both haven't warned me about anything at all...

So i'm positively sure my HDD is fine... it's a partition issue - and a buggy one - cuz i can get to my OSX desktop and run anything I want as usual - BUT with long wait during boot cuz of this fsck problem.

 

any more ideas?

OK...

Meanwhile, i've booted back to desktop and ran PERMISSION repair...

it found some stuff, mainly java virtual machine (???) files..

I've perform 4 times this repair - and it still write some files are at the wrong permission...

Then I rebooted and perform fsck_hfs again - x4 times...

it repaired something ( my extended attributes number got small after the 1st repair... )

 

but at after all - NO LUCK !!!

 

i'll try soon with " DiskWarrior"...
