Realtek has Mac OSX kexts officially. Section "others". Did you look there ?

this here for example I use for a Toshiba Laptop PCI-E internal 81xx card on 10.6.7, no Problems, even x64 working.

It replaces /plugs into OSX own kexts, so its a good practice to reinstall the software after OS updates if it stops working, thats the only "problem" and only a rare one.

PCI express Realtek Link : Realtek LAN drivers Win,Linux,OSX

the PCI and USB section is elsewhere on the sites menu. Just flip through all "Download" options.

I just noticed you said you tried software from Realtek, maybe the wrong or for older OSX ? remember that Snow is Intel only. Kexts for 10.3 and older will never work , because of PPC only.
