earthling0
greetings, has anyone had experience with trying to install original macbook pro(10.4.6) sw on a ppc? is it possible? works fine after -guid- partitioning ibook, but of course the ibook will only boot if connected by firewire to the macbook. cheers, earthling the only solution is for aliens to attack IIsi; Quad 650; G3; G5; MacBook Pro 15 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25606-installing-macbook-pro-sw-on-ppc/ Share on other sites
A Nonny Moose
Here's how I've always done it and hopefully the MacBook Pros didn't change their system restore disks. 1. Take MBP's system restore disks. 2. Turn your iBook on, but don't start up from the restore disk as it will create disaster. 3. After the iBook is done starting up, fire up TinkerTool and have it force the Finder to show hidden/system files. Relaunch Finder. 4. Now place a system restore disk in. 5. Navigate to the applications that were previously hidden on those disks (I can't remember what the folder is called, sorry). 6. You'l now see a bunch of disk images that can be dragged and dropped onto the desktop. Find the applications you want to do and drop them. You'll need to do this for all the system restore disks you have, as each one has separate apps. 7. Now that you're done dropping those files off, open the disk images. You'll notice each one tells you exactly where to drop things off (folder paths and everything!). Take all those files and drop them off in their respective (root level) places. 8. Since you've now voilated site licenses of every piece of software, take those ones off of the MBP (Hey, I have to keep the post semi-legal. Give me a break). 9. Reboot your iBook and pray everything works. 10. If you're scared by massive application sizes, use TrimTheFat on them. earthling0
Here's how I've always done it and hopefully the MacBook Pros didn't change their system restore disks. thanks for your reply. the original disks do not have 'restore' on it as does my g5 powermac sw. no disk images either. i probably did not syntax my question well... is the original macbook pro sw (2 x dvd's) universal (with modification) or can it only be installed on an intel chip machine? my hope is to install tiger on my g5. cheers, earthling the only solution is for aliens to attack IIsi; Quad 650; G3; G5; ibook; MacBook Pro 15 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/25606-installing-macbook-pro-sw-on-ppc/#findComment-173940 Share on other sites
A Nonny Moose
The Intel Mac OS is Intel only. The other pieces of software should be universal. Highlight the bundled software item and hit command R to find the pathway to it. Let's see what happens from there.
