SNeitzel
I had successfully installed OSX on my Compaq CQ50 laptop using iDeneb. Most everything was working except for sound, sleep and wireless. In my attempt to get wireless going I applied the 10.5.8 combo update and when I rebooted I lost the use of the keyboard and mouse. Everything else seems to be ok. Fortunately, external keyboard and mouse work so I think I can repair the damage, but I don't know where to start. Can someone point me in the right direction to getting my keyboard and trackpad going again? Gringo Vermelho
On laptops those are often connected internally via PS2, but there is no support for PS2 devices in OS X - Intel Macs don't have PS2 ports. You need to find and install community-made PS2 kernel extensions. I don't use PS2 devices so I don't remember the name of any of these drivers but I know that there are several different ones available. Doing a forum search for PS2 or PS/2 should get you something useful. What's strange is that an update should not disable any of those extensions, normally patches "die" when they get overwritten by original Apple files during an update, but since Apple don't provide these kernel extensions in the first place I don't really understand how this could happen to you. Just goes to show how much I know about PS2 devices on a Hackintosh I guess. SNeitzel
Ya, it seems strange to me too. I did not install any of the PS/2 fixes from iDeneb when I did the initial install and both of them worked fine. That makes me think they really are USB and it was one of those extensions that got replaced. But then the fact that an external KB and mouse work fine...??? That then makes me think something changed with the chipset driver and somehow that internal USB bus is not active. Thus my quandry, do I look for PS/2 fixes, USB fixes or chipset fixes? EDIT: OK, the machine dual boots Win7 as well, System Profiler there does show the KB and trackpad as PS/2. SNeitzel
Fixed by installing voodoops2 from here http://www.osx86install.com/support/18-new...pad-driver.html This also fixed the scroll bar on my trackpad too, which never worked before. Gringo Vermelho
Well done. Ya, it seems strange to me too. I did not install any of the PS/2 fixes from iDeneb when I did the initial install and both of them worked fine. One good reason to install retail OS X instead of using hacked DVDs - with distros you never know what gets installed, or what's modified and what isn't. It's strange that distros and hacked DVDs are still famously known as "the easy way" to install OS X. It's a lot easier to install and maintain retail OS X, and there will be less funny surprises like the one you just had.
