I have tried to install it but it hangs on the loading of the disc, i managed to get further bit by bit by using -f but it just hangs and after 20 seconds the HD shuts down.

The specs of my computer are

  • Mobo: Foxconn 661FX
  • CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz
  • RAM: 1GB DDR
  • GPU: GeForce 6200 256MB AGP
  • 160GB ATA HDD
  • AC'97 Audio

This disc worked first time on a laptop I had, but with my desktop it seems to be fussy, I'm guessing it must be the hard drive but every other OS i have installed worked without problem, Windows XP, Vista, 7 (current), Ubuntu 7.04 to 10.04. I have gotten stuck now so I need help.

Thanks in advanced.

SORRY about posting this in Post-Installation, by the time I noticed I had already made the post.

iATKOSv7 does not even boot, When my computer gets to the part where it checks to boot from disc, it just skips it and starts to load windows.

Kalyway booted fine, why wont iATKOS.

EDIT: It boots, but now doesn't get any further than the Kalyway distro did. It gets stuck and I get a message Still waiting for root device. what does this mean?

You need to have Jumper Pins on both the devices

Preferably connect the HDD to Primary Master & DVD Drive to secondary Master (if you have those ports) & set both the drives to master.

Press F8 & enter these commands

cpus=1 -v

The above command has to be used to boot from Pentium 4 systems

Hope this helps

Regards,

Thanks, so If i put both pins on Master it should work? They are both on different cables and I can't use the same cable but will this still work? The HDD goes into the Blue IDE port and the DVD Drive goes into the second one.

In the BIOS they are both picked up as Master so I think I got this step correct, I just think I wasnt booting it correct, I realised not many people got success with just booting without any parameters, didn't know which I should use and the Help on iATKOS has nothing unlike Kalyway.

Okay update, It didn't work, with that command it gets to BSD root and hangs, if i do safemode it gets to dsmos starting or something similar and hangs. Any ideas?

Ok so if i leave it, it does get through dsmos slowly, VERY slowly, then it then switches to a grey screen (which im guessing is the start of the GUI stuff and the actually install but either its going very slow or its stuck because it was at a blank grey screen for 30 minutes+ with no text, or sign of loading anything.

Would trying another drive help? I have already tried another drive but that one couldnt read the disc at all so I think its broken, but I don't want to buy one if thats not the cause.
