I finally managed to get 10.6.3 snow leopard to install and boot on my Acer 15.6 (walmart) laptop.

I tried about 100 times before somewhat success.

specs/info

CPU: Core i3 370M, busratio=18

USB: all ports work

HDD: 320gb

SD Reader: works

Graphics: Intel HD (so stuck at 1024x768 until there's a kext for it, if ever)

Wifi: Atheros 9287 not working yet

Wired: Broadcom BCM57780 not working yet

Battery: works fine

Keyboard: works

Touchpad: works

Shutdown/Restart: fine

Sleep: freezes screen on but power button brings it back

So for now I have a proof of concept brick as research to solve these if I can. It's a start though!

I have an acer aspire 5742-6674 i3 380M, intel HD graphics. Very similar specs to what you have. Have any of you guys had more success with this? I've done one hackintosh, mostly a vanilla deal using ##### on a Gigabyte mobo, with Snow leopard 10.6.3.

For the acer, I tried some of the Lion usb installs and didn't get anyway.

Thanks for you help!

I have the Aspire 5742-6488

I got 10.6.3 installed and sound worked right out of the box.

Theres a kext out for the Lan now ... BCM57780

I have this weird problem though that when using GPT on the hard drive setup I cannot boot from the hard drive with chameleon or chimera installed . Keep getting this boot error message But I can boot the OS from ##### ok???

I decided to try MBR and Chameleon came up correctly but by now I gave up and went back to Win7 for now.

Video was just VGA

Wifi not detected

Webcam detected but not working

I tried to update to 10.6.6/8 but on boot up it just hangs on the spinner.

I had also tried to boot in x64 and while it did start the only thing working was the mouse.

Looks like more development needed for these laptops

Pretty much got SL sorted out now..

Not sure at which update but by 10.6.6

There are new Intel HD files that cause problems.

There are 5 of them:

AppleIntelHDGraphics*.kext/plugin/bundle.

Remove them and SL boots up now using vanilla kernel

Have to see if this works for 10.6.8 too ....

So I got my Broadcom Lan working with BCM57780 kexts.

Webcam works

Audio is working via Voodoo .. though i've seen some ACL272 kexts that I may try

Graphics are VGA which actually isn't too bad on the lappy for basic stuff.

I'd perfer wifi working over higher screen resolution too ...

My Broadcom wifi: PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_1692&SUBSYS_04871025&REV_01
