Hello all,

Without getting into specifics, suffice it to say that I needed to reinstall Snow Leopard last night. Thankfully it is rather simple due to me also simple hardware. I get the dvd out and install and everything is fine. Computer feels rather snappy. First thing I do is apply the 10.6.7 Combo update and then boom - computer feels a bit sluggish based on how quickly webpages scroll in safari. So, yes, I admit this may not be the best test to gague if my compy is running well or not but it is something but it did lead me to this question - once I apply any combo update, is there anything special I need to do? Reapply kexts that I selected during the installation or anything of that nature?

Thanks

It's almost impossible to say anything meaningful without knowing anything about your hardware, or which patches and fixes you are using. That was a hint by the way.

I guess it's possible that you lost hardware accelerated graphics after updating.

I am planning on reinstalling back to the base system tonight and do some more tests. Mainly I was wondering if these patches and what not are required to be reinstalled after osx updates. I decided to change the focus of the question and didn't update the subject :P

8gb ram, nvidia 9800x2 or whatever, asus rampage formula mobo, i believe the intel core 2 quad 2.4ghz? something like that. as for what i picked during the iatkos install, like i said, i am planning on redoing the install tonight and can make better note of what patches and what not i am selecting during that phase.

here is what i selected during the install (some of these are preselected, obv)

/Extra dir

fakesmc

disabler

RTC

evorebooter

AHCI SATA

JMicron Sata/IDE

Voodoo HDA

Apple HDA

NVEnabler

Yukon 88E8056

It is pointless to select AppleHDA and VoodooHDA at the same time. Use one or the other.

You might lose your AHCI/SATA/IDE patches after updating, depending on how they are implemented. It's impossible for me to tell for sure from here and I am not familiar with iATKOS.

If this happens (and your hardware actually needs those patches, I don't think so though, maybe for the jmicron) then you will not be able to boot at all.

Depending on what these patches do and why you need them, there may be ways to do the same thing in a way that won't be affected by a system update. The Chameleon bootloader comes with a set of drive controller kernel extensions that will not get overwritten when you update the OS because they are built to work from /Extra/Extensions rather than /System/Library/Extensions.

The rest looks fine, although some of them are obsolete and/or might be unnecessary on your hardware, such as EvoReboot, RTC and Disabler.kext.
