mad_t Posted March 19, 2011 Share Posted March 19, 2011 Hi I've installed 10.5.8 on to my PC without any issue. When I was doing the installation I had the SATA hard disk connected to SATA1. Now it's installed I need to move the disk to SATA3 ( possibly 2 I'll have to check in the bios) I've moved the disk to the new SATA connector and now it won't boot unless I have the DVD in the drive. is there anyway to fix this without having to reinstall a fresh ? Thanks I decided to reinstall 10.6.3 (iatkos), this has installed fine, Audio, Video and LAN working well. I've just been offered the 10.6.6 update via the OS. Is this OK to do ? Audio is ALC888 and LAN is Realtek RTL8111B Audio and LAN are both working, I have sound and Internet access, video is OK but fixed at 1024x768. I have found an appleframebuffer.kext this has allowed me to get the resolution upto 1280x1024. this seems to be working fine. I used iatkos s3 v2 10.6.3 dvd to install, using the defaults and adding the vga, audio and LAN. So... how do I upgrade to 10.6.6 ? Backup your Audio & Lan kexts before updating and then reinstall after if you need to. With a dual core CPU you probably are using vanilla kernel, you did not answer that. If so you should be OK. Type "uname -a" in Terminal (without the quotes) and post the result. Seems like you need to do a lot more research. If you follow advice about a DSDT for your video, then you won't have to backup any kexts for that. The ones you may have to backup are ALC888 and RTL8111B. Or you can research and reinstall them after the update. serge sky Posted March 20, 2011 Share Posted March 20, 2011 Ok, i see you solved the problem, but for the future: if you move HDD to another port, system mounts its partitions under another name. For ex., if you moved drive from SATA0 port to SATA1, you'll get a disk1s1 instead of previous disk0s1. In this case you only have to reinstall bootloader and no more. Bootloader installator (for ex., chameleon) will make system volume active for boot. Chameleon will boot just fine from any SATA port unless you have conflicting settings in your /Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist. Then install chameleon to that drive and its bootable. I ran carbon copy cloner, to an identical disk but it isn't bootable. Just noticed your post about chameleon... I'll google that !! Anyway decided to backup kexts, that went Ok. Tried the DSDT for the GMA950, but it gave errors, object not found.. Decided to go for it anyway and upgrade to 10.6.6.. It seems to have worked Video looks fine, LAN is working (this is being posted from the PC/MAC) Not tested the sound yet.. but will try that later. Just been offered the 10.6.7 update, may give it a go in a few days.. Anything I've missed ??? Thanks I've found chameleon, but I'm not sure what to do with it My backup is on a SATA Drive currently connected via a SATA / USB Adapter. How do I make that bootable ? Thanks yet again !!
