diplomat
i'm trying to copy the tiger-x86-flat.img over over to my 20 gig drive and i get the "The output device is not writeable" error when using dd.exe (from the Forensic Acquistition Utilities package) and the following command: d:\dd.exe if=d:\tiger-x86-flat.img of=\\.\PhysicalDrive2 This is the actual error: D:\dd.exe: The output device is not writeable. Copying d:\tiger-x86-flat.img to \\.\PhysicalDrive2... 1572732+0 records in 1572732+0 records out D:\> weird thing is it pauses for like 10 minutes after the "Copying d:\tiger..." message and I can hear the target drive working, eventhough it gives that error. initially i the target drive was NTFS formatted, thought that was the problem and then I deleted that and left the drive unpartitioned, but then I got the same error message any ideas and how to resolve this??? diplomat
nevermind, i took a chance and tried to boot it anyway and it did boot successfully. I did run the command again and this threw in the bs option (bs=1048576) before trying to boot. That may have been the solution now to solve my startup loading problems...
