BSD Script

Installing to an external FWD using the non-DVD install and everything goes fine till it hits "installing BSD subsystem". All the files seem to do fine but when the installer runs the BSD script it just sits there forever although it tells me there is only 8 Min left. Any ideas would be grand.

My specs:

PowerBook G4 1.5, 768MB Ram, Superdrive

Maxtor 80GB External FWD Formatted for HFS+ and bootable.

I got it installed. Im running it right now. I used a different method. I had two partitions on my external HD. I restored the DMG onto one partition. Booted that from that partition and installed onto the other partition on the external. Ill post a more in-depth guide later but you get it.

Hi!

Same here, gets stuck while installing the BSD subsystem.

And I restored the image to an external drive.

Does the drive/partition has to be erased completely before i restore the image to it?

Anyone who had the same problem and managed to solve it PLEASE reply....

Best regards!

Andy

Me again!

I opened the Install-Package with Pacifist and tried to install it to my external HD. It worked but I got at least 10 errors - all concerning the BSD subsystem. There seem to are files missing in my version of Leopard!!

So anyways I managed to install and had to make the disk bootable with carboncopycloner but when I tried to start from it, the kernelpanic screen showed up.

So my question is: Are there 2 versions of the torrent file floating around and do I have to redownload it?

My torrent file was named: The_Big_Cat.3511949.TPB.torrent

And the installed folder was: APPLE.MAC.OSX.LEOPARD.V10.5.WWDC.PREVIEW-BETAOSX

I also checked the "BSD" install-package with Pacifist and it showed up that a lot of files were missing. Can anyone please do the same check and tell me what it said? Just open Pacifist and open the Apple install package. Afterwards select the BSD package under Essentials -> essentials group. Then click on Analyze!

Please help me, I'm very keen on trying Leopard!

Thanks for any reply!

Andy

Found the answer in this thread...

"Personally, I did launch the installer from my hard drive, the OSInstall.mpkg, and I did have the same problem.

When the installer was stalled, I did kill the stalled processus from terminal and the install continued successfully

The stalled process was "temacs", so a

sudo killall temacs

was ok"

That worked for me and the install continued. Will let you know if the machine is bootable afterwards.

Okay I got it running after those BSD Subscript install problems.

I restored the .img to a completely erased and partitiones disk and installed from there. That worked for me.

It seems that the disk needs to be empty, cuz I tried to restore it to a disk with other files on it before and that didn't work (hung on BSD subscript stuff).

So if you got those issues try to find a completely empty hd/partition, that might make a difference!

Best regards, Andy
