AmberJ
I just bought an older HP DV6327cl laptop that is in the DV6000 series. My boyfriend was trying to help me figure out how to put Snow Leopard on it, but he's too busy right now and I want to figure this out. I'd really appreciate your help because I'm pretty new to this whole thing. Here is a list of my hardware: CPU: AMD Turion 64 X2 mobile technology TL-50 / 1.6 GHz RAM: 1 GB DDR2 5300 Chipset: Nforce Video: Nvidia Geforce 6150 Go HD: 120 GB Serial ATA I've got an iatkos S3 V2 install DVD for Snow Leopard 10.6.3. I'm not sure if this is the best thing to use, but that's what I've tried so far. I did a little reading in the forum and I've got a very basic grasp of things to try. However, I apparently don't know enough because I'm still having issues. I ready that you pretty much have to use something called "verbose" mode when you boot up the DVD. So I'm booting it up with a -v. It gives me a black screen with a bunch of text. Then I'm able to get to the actual installation screen. The Keyboard and Trackpad on my Laptop don't seem to work in the install screen. I hooked up a USB keyboard and mouse to it, and it seems to be working. I really don't want to have to hook up a separate keyboard and mouse every time I use it. So I went into the "customize" section for the install DVD. I wasn't sure what to select here. I pretty much left everything the way that it showed up. The install looks like it went ok and I'm able to boot up into Snow Leopard, but a lot of things aren't working. I still have to use the USB Keyboard and Mouse. My network card is not showing up under the preferences. I've got no sound and it doesn't look like my video is showing up correctly. I know that the correct resolution for it is 1280x800 because that's what Windows set it as. Right now I only have the option of 1024x768 and I can't adjust anything. I can't adjust the brightness and I can't set it to the right resolution. Also, the webcam isn't working (and I was really hoping that it would so that I could use Facetime). So I'm guessing that I messed something up when I was customizing it. Can anyone give me some advice on what I need to do now? There are a lot of things that I could select and I'm not sure what to do about it. The Keyboard and Trackpad not working is a big problem for me. In the Tutorials -> Genius Bar section of this forum they have guides. I found this one there, http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=21952 ApplePS2Controller.kext.zip http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=240639 I saw another one, and the date is much newer, VoodooPS2.zip http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1640843 This is for HP DV8, DV7, DV6 and I think it uses ApplePS2Controller.kext To install the kext (driver) it is better to use a utility like Kext Helper b7 which handles repairing permissions and rebuilding the cache. Hackintosh is finicky about what hardware is compatible (also used by Apple) with it. This is a fairly geeky undertaking and rarely works "out of the box" for many computers. It's not like Linux Pinguy where most everything works without much effort. Your project will entail reading, and the Search window at the top of the page where the posts appear in your thread can be quite helpful. I didn't discover an example of your particular computer fully working with Hackintosh, Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). Good Luck Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/248520-need-help-installing-snow-leopard-on-my-laptop/#findComment-1642493 Share on other sites
AmberJ
Thank you for the reply! I was starting to worry that nobody would have any input on my issues. Just to update a little, I was able to get a better install last night. I've got working sound and I was able to bootup without using safe boot. I had to use busratio=8 for my CPU. I found a thread on here that explained how to calculate the busratio and I was able to boot up without any errors. I tried some PS2 Kext's last night that broke my install, so I'm installing again from scratch. I'm going to try the Kext files that you recommended this time. Just to break down what I chose here is the list: - Chameleon RC4 bootloader - Quoop 10.3.0 Kernel - 32-bit Boot - Legacy Logo - Quiet Boot - Nvidia Nforce SATA/IDE - Voodoo Sound - Both PS2 options (apple/voodoo) So right now I can boot it up just fine and I've got sound. So I'm working on getting my Keyboard/Trackpad and then I'll start working on my video. It did play the intro video when it finished setup. So I've got to figure out a way to get my resolution set and see if I can get my brightness to be adjustable. I also want to try and get a battery indicator. It's kind of bad not knowing how much battery I've got left. I've done a little research and there doesn't seem to be an actual solution for the Geforce 6150 Go. Is anyone aware of a kext or method to get it completely enabled? The only threads that I could find for it were 3 years old. EDIT: Ok, so I've got a strange issue. I reinstalled the OS again using the EXACT same settings. This time I've got sound and my Keyboard/Trackpad started working. It also detected my Wireless Card, but it's not picking up any networks. My Webcam also started randomly working. So I installed an External USB Wireless N Adapter. I used the installer CD that came with the Adapter. It installed successfully and asked me to reboot. After the reboot, my Keyboard/Trackpad no longer work and my USB Mouse is having trouble. I can move the cursor around, but it won't respond when I click on anything. It popped up a network message and said that a new Network Adapter was detected, but I can't click anything to do anything. I've tried rebooting the system 3 times now and I've tried doing a -v and a -x. Is it possible that the driver for my USB Network Adapter messed up my USB ports? The Driver said that it is designed for 10.6.4+ with an Intel Processor. Could the fact that I've got an AMD Processor be causing an incompatibility? You need better advice than mine. One thing is, when you buy some kind of hardware, check to make sure it is known to work on Hackintosh before you buy it. The kexts (drivers) for Hackintosh are usually modified. So you find a compatible USB dongle, and then you download the kext that is recommended to work with it. Did you install a .kext file for this USB and then repair permissions and rebuild the cache? Kext Helper b7 Clever about calculating the busratio, I wouldn't have thought of that.
