I have the following Hardware Setup:

Shuttle XPC SB86i with so775 and a Celeron 3GHz

I installed OSX last Month usind a X1600Pro 128MB from Sapphire and everything was fine using Borisbandeovs installer. I even had the 10.4.7 Update Installed without a problem.

This Week my X1600 died and i replaced it with a Sapphire X1600 XT (not Pro) this time to get a bit more Speed in WoW.

Now i can't boot, every time i get a distorted Screen half blue / halfwhite with stipes an a working mouse cursor. Nothing is diplayed, no dock, no icons.

When i change to the onboard GMS900 (Change in the BIOS settings) OSX boots fine. I have dual boot with XP, XP works fine in every resolution, so i assume the Graphic card is technically fine.

Someone has an idea?

I have the same card as you...and have the same problem with the Boris installer.

If i edit the files manually...i lose QE and CI but able to change resolutions..

IF i use the boris installer....i get 1/2 white 1/2 blue screen with lots of lines horizontally.

I did a fresh install and didn't change anything except "graphics mode"="1280x1024x32" in the boot.plist...and it worked ok.

I am having problems though with artifacts...and I cannot change resolutions.

I've done a {censored} load of searches on this site and concluded that Im basically screwed .

I am guessiing your device ID is 71C0 ???

You can add me to the list of people with a DEVID 71C0 that has the same problem. Although my X1600XT is a HIS ICEQ Turbo Dual DVI PCIe. I can get a picture if I install from the Myzar DVD, but I get very major artifacting. If I try manually patching or patching with the installer it goes to {censored}.

Thanks for the answers. @stagn99; I did find your post an tried modifing the com.apple.Boot.plist, but it changed nothing. I can't get into the GUI with the card so I don't know the DeviceID.

Like you, I purchased the card because of the "known" compatibility...

I guess i could exchange the card, but i really don't know which model to pick. The 1600PRO ist a bit to slow for me (want to play World of Warcraft). and i do not know if there is a X1600 XT Model which really works.

But thanks for the answeres!

IM pretty sure your device ID is

0x71c01002

i noticed people who have had much success have device ID

0x71c21002

:D

People with the Asus and Powercolor have been having good times with their cards....but how are you supposed to know the device ID before you purchase a card?!?!

Anyway..i pretty much gave up..im sticking to my real powermac G5 :D

@stagn99: i have an Shuttle XPC which is a barebone, so the infos regarding my mainboard are:

Regarding my Problem, i returned the X1600 GT and replaced it by a slightly more expensive connect3D X1800 GTO which runs runs absolutely fine, QE and everything!

I haven't tried WoW yet, but will do so tonight.

I just did it and I got everything working. I now have to solve a bit of a stutter in my system. I don't know where it's coming from. I thought it was all the video card, but I guess not.

For review, I have the HIS ICE Q X1600XT, AMD 3800X2, MSI K8N Neo board. I'll putz around tomorrow, because I haven't tweaked at all. Just got it all installed. I had to install windows in order to make a boot floppy to flash my video card. My hard drives are all askew, I haven't disabled beam sync, I haven't even begun to try to narrow down what might be causing my stutter issue. Just thought I'd post some good news for anyone who might be having issues with their card still. Of course, I have to council against flashing your card if you're not in a position to buy a new one. There is the chance that it could go wrong and totally bork your card for life.
