SFly
Hello, Ive been on insanely mac for a wile ( used this site to help me get my Dell Studio15 to dualboot with OSx.6) and I was going to post this in another section but said I couldnt lol (guess I neglected this bit) anyway I just put together a PC and tried to put mac on , like I did my lappy, but failed I was wondering if its because I'm using some leftover old ide drives (dvd and hdd) I started to fallow tonymac's tut using ##### but it wont detect that I've put a disk in so i tried making a usb disk. it does show on the list but crashes like there was nothing there Before all this tony stuff I did try doing the same thing as I did for my lappy, rebel efi +mac disk and dozens of kexts and kernels but rebel efi doesnt work on this system (info pulled from xfire, edited by me) (info pulled from xfire, edited by me) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Processor: Intel i7 950 Memory: 8190MB RAM Hard Drive: 500 GB sata (for windows) 160gb ide (secondary) Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 Anyway I'll probably do some more research in the next few days as I have stayed up way too late tonight/morning. If anyone could give me anytips and/or let me know about the ide thing I will be forever great-full lol Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/248432-just-put-together-a-pc/ Share on other sites
mstansfield
what do you mean by it crashes? Is it giving you an error of somekind when you try to boot off of the cd or is it just not doing anything? If it's not doing anything does the drive spin up and try to read the disk or does it just sit idle? A few more details would help in the problem solving here. Well when I pt in the disk in it doesnt seem to be reading, the drive does spin. I tried pressing f5 to rescan drives but it the screen gets all glitchy. Ill try and start it any way and instant panic, even tried every -x -s ext but doesnt seem to try to read. I wonder if its my copy of mac os or maybe its because im trying to install off an ide drive think this will work if i use one of my my flash drives if i just if i backup the disk and restore it on the drive? I'll probably wont try again until tomorrow Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/248432-just-put-together-a-pc/#findComment-1642239 Share on other sites
mstansfield
It's worth a shot. Ya that does seem to be some sort of hardware problem, either with the drive, the board, or the disk. I would try using a usb stick and see if that fixes you issues Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/248432-just-put-together-a-pc/#findComment-1642745 Share on other sites
SFly
Alright so round 2: I used my old g3 mac (tiger) to back up my snowleopard disk and restored it on my usb drive ( took ages to do, i had to keep it from sleeping or it would crash lol) since it took so long I had to wait for the next day (after classes) to try again. So I did using the thumbdrive and it seen it and started to work but it froze at this screen I have no idea what thats suppose to be but after looking around I seen that I forgot to disconnected my bluetooth Now I've got my hard drive formatted (disk utillity, fallowing tonymac's guide) and will continue, wish me luck PS if this works I'll try tonymac's guide to reinstall mac on my Dell Studio 15, I currently have snowleopard on it but i have to boot in safemode EDIT: It seems like it may might have frozen The progress bar is at the bottom left of the X and has been there for an hour saying about 19 mins left hmmmmm maybe Ill leave it alone for tonight and try again tomorrow after class if nothing changes in the morn EDIT2: Alright!!! Got it running, just trying to get my sound/video working proper and im good to go. already got it online and set up sharing with my laptop. Its been upgraded to 10.6.6 it shows that I have an i7 at 3.1gh (close enough) and 8gigs ram. I'll keep playing for a bit Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/248432-just-put-together-a-pc/#findComment-1643903 Share on other sites

SFly
lol i was going to say to put plug in a mouse that's what that pic means LOL What? I unplugged the bluetooth and it got rid of that pic wow Anyway I got Video to work ( I get better resolutions via hdmi then vga, though on windows its opposite) but could not figure out the sound, its realtek's alc889 and I used the kexts on that ##### but it didnt work, when I went to system info under sound it shown all the audio inputs, outputs but couldnt select anything so I'm just using my m-audio interface Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/248432-just-put-together-a-pc/#findComment-1644735 Share on other sites
