hammydude12345 Posted August 16, 2006 Share Posted August 16, 2006 Hi, I am having problems with booting 10.4.6 here is my current system: athlon 64 2800 socket 754 geforce 6600gt nforce 3 chipset I currently have 3 partitions on my 160gb harddrive: windows xp (primary, ntfs) windows vista (logical, ntfs) partition for mac 10.4.6 (primary, whatever file system mac uses) I have been using this guide so far and have gotten to step 9. I have installed os 10.4.6 fine, no problems, except at the very end it said "restart now? (ok) " where it froze up, so i just restarted it manually. I got my iso off of pirate bay, in the comments they said it would work with amd machines. ON step nine, you have to edit boot.ini. Windows vista, however, now uses a didfferent format for booting instead of boot.ini. I went here and followed their guide for modifying the boot menu. I have the "chain0" file on the root (c: and d:) of both of my windows partitions. Now when I restart my computer I have 4 boot options: earlier version of windows (windows xp) microsoft windows (used to work for windows visat beta 2, but vista crashed so I used a recovery disk and the option below appeared. This option no longer works) windows vista ultimate recovered (windows vista beta 2) mac os x (mac 10.4.6, duh) When I choose the mac option my screen turns black and in the top left corner in white text it sayd "chain booting error". Oh, and that picture I attached below is my current boot options. one of the options for vista is duplicated because vista crashed recently so I restored it, now there is an extra option for vista for some reason... schale01 Posted August 16, 2006 Share Posted August 16, 2006 I got tired of messing with the Vista Boot loader and switched my OSX partition to active. This allowed me to use darwin as my bootloader.
