I've had my GT680R-008US for about 30 hours. I'm ready to try and hackintosh it. Specs:

  • Core i7-2630QM (4-cores, 8-threads, 2.00GHz, 2.9GHz Turbo Boost)
  • 8GB RAM (4x2GB)
  • Nvidia GTX 460M 1.5GB
  • 500GB 7200RPM WD Scorpio Black HDD
  • 64GB Corsair V64 SSD

I'm trying to boot iATKOS S3 v2. I get an immediate kernel panic. I've already tried booting with "-v cpus=1", but the same thing happens. I'm guessing I need a kernel that's specific for Sandy Bridge, or can I try the Vanilla kernel?

I do have a new idea though... I could try copying the contents of the retail DVD onto a blank 8GB partition, swap out the kernel and OSInstall.mpkg (so I can install 10.6.0 on MBR instead of GUID), and see if that works.

Any ideas though, or any other boot arguments that I can try?

Thanks.

Here's an image of the kernel panic:

I've installed iATKOS S3 v2 (10.6.3).

When booting with -f -v busratio=8 cpus=1, the boot process will eventually restart my computer.

YES! I've booted into 10.6.3! I had to boot into Single-User Mode and removed AppleHDA*, NV*.

So PS2 is working (no trackpad preferences, though), and the battery meter is working. I still need audio (VoodooHDA results in a loud "hissing" sound coming out of the speakers, and the actual audio playback is very choppy), VGA, and system profiler.

Interesting, will give this a try as assumed iatkos wouldn't support SandyBridge. I'll give it another go with busratio this time and see if I get any further.

I'm actually going to be trying a clean install of Lion 10.7 via a USB drive soon. Here's some pages of interest:

Thanks. My iATKOS install wouldn't complete after several attempts last night I gave up. Just to get the installer to boot up I had to set busratio=20 cpus=1. On previous laptops (3 different models/makes) i've never had any issues booting iATKOS and so this Dell hardware really isn't liked by Hackintosh installs.

For now I think i'm going to have to stick with my working vm and wait for those who know what they are doing to find an answer as I don't understand enough to try any more variations on getting it to work.

I'd followed some instructions specific to an L702X but it had the 3d card and I didn't know how to change my dsdt.aml to amend the one provided for my different gpu so again got half way through and had to abandon ship.
