Hey guys! This is my first post on here. I have been building computers for years but I have never even used a mac whatsoever- except for playing with a few at bestbuy. lol

I'm wanting to do a dual boot on my Acer Aspire 5742-7653. I have read through this how to:

http://www.windows7hacker.com/index.php/20...e-work-through/

I know that I need to make sure the hardware in my laptop is compatible before I try to install a mac os. I have searched as best I could to see if my laptop hardware is capable but have come up with nothing. I also tried by checking each component but I do not know what each component is within my laptop. (ex. what motherboard I have) I tried downloading multiple different programs that were supposed to tell me exactly what hardware is installed in my laptop but they have not been helpful either.

If anyone has any info on whether my laptop would be a candidate and how much trouble it would be to do this dual boot please let me know.

Again it is an Acer Aspire 5742-7653

Processor: Intel Core i5-460m

Intel "HD" graphics

who knows what else?

Thanks in advance guys! I'm glad to be a part of the forum and to hopefully gain some knowledge of the Mac OS.

I have this exact model and have installed osx 10.6.3 (retail dvd) on it. Everything works fine except for ethernet and wireless. I am trying to find osx drivers but so far no luck. I used the latest ##### plus ##### 2.0 for the installation. Also, I have an external hd, so was able to install osx to the external drive and then "restore" that drive to a partition on my windows drive without having to reformat the whole drive. If you try to install osx directly to your internal hd you will have to repartition the drive as GUID (there may be some other solutions).

Anyone else have any suggestions for working wireless drivers for this notebook (acer invilink nplify).

Thanks!

For jonmike13: I have from you older Acer Aspire 5720 and Snow Leopard iATKOS I installed OK. I had trouble viewing the installation, so I had to use GMA 950 graphics controller and OK. I called these drivers:

For bdeweese: The Acer wireless drivers I have not seen anywhere. We will have enough LAN - yet ...

Has anyone had any luck installing the WLAN drivers for the 5742-7653 ??

I have the same model and wanted to install MacOS on it, but it would render a computer almost useless if it didnt have a wireless internet connection.

Replace Your Wifi card with the one from Atheros - they work out of the box - google for the exactmodels
