Upgraded from 10.6.2 to 10.6.4 and found the DVD drive is not working properly. Its OK for read most of the time, but not for write. Had a LG in there, and swapped it out for a Samsung, and finally a Pioneer (DVR-218L) - all SATA drives.

When I put in a blank DVD it runs very slow, then the dialog pops up (ignore, eject, etc.). So I try Disk Utility, or Toast, to burn an image/files to disc and it just goes very, very slow, and seems to hang. Found some threads via Google, but nothing conclusive (some people resorted to using an external USB/Firewire DVD drive).

Apparently, its a known problem. Cannot see any specific fixes in 10.6.5/6 - but might it be worth trying the upgrade? Any other suggestions? Asus Rampage Gene II/940/6GM RAM Nvidia 8800GS. Everything else seems to run just fine.

What make/model SATA controller is the DVD drive plugged into?

Intel Matrix Storage Technology Support RAID 0,1,5,10

JMicron® JMB363 PATA and SATA controller

1 xInternal SATA 3.0 Gb/s port

1 xExternal SATA 3.0 Gb/s port (SATA On-the-Go)
