countofsorrow
Hey all! I'm considering reinstalling OS X on my Asus M50VM A1. What is the best distro around? back in the days I used hazard in 10.6.2? Is there a more recent/stable distro out there for the specs of my laptop? Also, I've been looking around on the web to find a way to install it from a usb drive but apparently you absolutely need a mac for that? I was also wondering if I should try to install it in VmWare or something like that beforehand to see if it works. If so, does it mean I would work the same way if I install it on my HD or I could run into some other problems? Thank you! Gringo Vermelho
Try a retail Snow Leopard install DVD with a suitable boot CD. There are several different boot CDs available out there, MyHack, #####, Empire EFI etc etc. Use CD-RW media and keep trying boot CDs until you find one that works for you. VMWare is virtualization software, it uses the same virtual, "emulated" chipset, video, sound and LAN devices on any PC you run it on. http://www.vmware.com/virtualization/virtu...ine.html#c25953 Therefore you cannot use VMWare to gauge OS X compatibility with your physical hardware. However, OS X on VMWare, even in a half-working state, could be useful for preparing an installation on real hardware via homebrew Chameleon boot CD or USB flash drive.
