Noam AA
hey there, i was trying lately to get istat menus to work. but now it's a little complicated. the thing is, i'm able to see temps with istat pro, but with istat menus i found out there is a connection to which "mac model" you have (macpro3,1 macpro4,1 .....) now, on system profiler everything seems to be ok, i can see MacPro3,1 and all other data as needed to be. but no luck. so on the other forum (which have the section of FakeSMC) they told me to change to imac on smbios, so i did, and still no change with istat menus. BUT i noticed some real strange thing between this 2 versions of smbios.plist when i run geekbench, you can see a row with "model : ..." when i had MacPro3,1 set on smbios the model was "Hackintosh" but when on iMac11,1 the model was "imac" now when i don't have any smbios on the extra folder, system profiler display MacPro3,1. (so i think smbios need to be set to macpro3,1 and not any other version, also KP on 4,1 and 5,1) i think something need to be done in order to make all the apps believe i'm using a real MacPro3,1 can anyone tell what going wrong here?? thanks for ANY help! Gringo Vermelho
The Chameleon bootloader is probably setting MacPro3,1 by itself when you're not using smbios.plist. If what you're seeing when not using an smbios.plist matches the Chameleon smbios defaults.. http://forge.voodooprojects.org/p/chameleo...mbios_patcher.c ..then that's what's happening. Anyway, the Chameleon defaults are wrong. For example, SMbiosversion MP31.88Z.006C.B05.0802291410 does not have an SMbiosdate of "04/01/2008", the SMbiosdate for that would be "02/29/08". Whoever came up with the Chameleon defaults didn't research thoroughly, or they don't want this information to be accurate for some reason. To get the correct smbios.plist info for MacPro3,1, google "MacPro3,1 DMI" (without quotes) and follow the hits that lead to Linux bug report sites such as https://bugs.launchpad.net and http://www.mail-archive.com/ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com. To get iStat working, use the latest version of fakesmc + plugins: http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?showforum=165 --- I have the same "problem", Geekbench says "hackintosh" when I use MacPro3,1 but when I use iMac9,1 (for example) Geekbench shows the correct model. I can't figure out what the difference is, i have all the correct data in smbios.plist, verified a million times from Linux bug reports with DMI dumps from real Macs - but I cannot get it to not show "Hackintosh" when using MacPro3,1. I know this is probably not that important, but still, please, if anyone knows something, share it. Noam AA
other then date i can't see any difference. but thanks for that. also, if you still didn't get it, i already using FakeSMC, and it's working, but only with istat pro after trying to get help there, i've been told i can't get istat menus to work is because it depends on the mac model. although i have macpro3,1 in the smbios plist. still something is wrong and what comes to my mind is, if geekbench can see the real rig so i think istat manus can either, what lead me to think something is wrong with the smbios, it's like it's doing 50% job Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/241377-need-some-help-with-smbiosplist/#findComment-1612303 Share on other sites
Gringo Vermelho
iStat worked fine for me last time I tried it, with an MacPro3,1 smbios.plist. Search my previous posts for more information, yes, I'm too lazy to post links. What do you mean fakesmc is working but only with iStat Pro? Noam AA
it's means i can see temps in istat pro but not in istat menus Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/241377-need-some-help-with-smbiosplist/#findComment-1612430 Share on other sites
Gringo Vermelho
Sound like a configuration problem with iStat Menus. if Pro can read the sensors, iStat Menus should be able to read them as well. I don't use iStat anymore, so I can't help you with that. Which plugins are you using? You can run hwmonitor in Windows to find out which monitoring ICs your motherboard has. Then add the appropriate plugins for use with fakesmc. Noam AA
Man i'm really appreciate you trying to help, but as i sad before this is NOT istat problem i already have the right plugs, and already been on the Project OS X forum (which have the FakeSMC sub forum with the Creators of all this monitoring project), and this is the from one of the makers of the plugins "iStat menu depends on Mac name" so please, i DO know what to install in order to make it work, and it's ALREADY been working, just with istat pro (which is a widget for dashboard and i can't see things like 4 cpu (only CPU A + CPU B ), and this is a istat pro thing and not a problem. but istat menus, seem to need the mac model, and can read what actually behind the fake smbios, just like geekbench can do. SO I ALMOST positive the right solution for me is to fix the hole "hackintosh" that apps can read.
