chrisono
i have a laptop with a 460m in it, now the graphics seem fine, but i have to put the computer to MacPro3,1 to get any type of decent score in cinibench, and by decent i mean under 15fps (best i have managed as of yet) but the screen will flick black and then come back, almost like its blinking its that fast, but its damn anoying. and i get no itunes visualiser just a black screen :S i am on chamelion rc5 with tonymacs nvidia update now i was wondering if anyone might have any ideas on how to correct this? TH3L4UGH1NGM4N
It's a known issue in os x in general to be getting lower Cinebench scores but as for your 460m getting a low score it can (in my opinion) be one of these two problems or both Normally speaking, the MacPro 3,1 works best where the 4,1 and 5,1 give lower fps but you're already using 3,1 in your SMBios so that doesn't seem to be the issue The second option is the Apple GPM(graphicspowermanagement)kext in most cases this causes the card to stay in it's idle clock and memory state which yields such low fps. Adding your dev id to the kext can allow your card to run at it's optimized speed as another member said in the gtx 470 topic. I suggest you go through the 470 thread (not all 72 pages of it) but the last few pages because it was recently talked about and it might help you out. Does your 460m have QE enabled because you mention you get no visualizer in iTunes. chrisono
well kinda solved or at least figured out the itunes problem, its a sound issue, seems like the music is not being fed into the visualiser :S Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/240724-odd-graphics-problem-on-460m/#findComment-1607831 Share on other sites
TH3L4UGH1NGM4N
Oh okay and indeed you do have QE working as for the screen flicking, what is the refresh rate that you are using? Is it the same that you use when you boot into windows? chrisono
yep its the same, i probably should have clarified that its not constant flickering but every once and awhile it will flick off then right back on same refresh rate as windows Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/240724-odd-graphics-problem-on-460m/#findComment-1607920 Share on other sites
TH3L4UGH1NGM4N
if it happens sporadically then it's most likely a driver issue if it isn't constant. Sadly it might be something that you'd have to live with because I'm not sure what else could be causing that aside from the driver for the card Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/240724-odd-graphics-problem-on-460m/#findComment-1608354 Share on other sites
