So I got my system up and running for the first time on my new rig:

Antec 1200

i7 930

Asus p6t58d-e

Ati 5850 Saphire

6 gigs of RAM

I even got my resolution up by booting in graphics mode.

My problem is that when I go to install Final Cut it says I have 0 video Ram. I suspected this was a video card driver issue so I searched the interenet and installed different kexts using kext helper but was still unsucessful due to the same error.

Has anybody else encountered and solved this problem

thanks,

tyler

Which version of Snow Leopard are you on? I'm using a P6X58D-E with a Powercolor 5850 PCS+, and am having no problems with 10.6.5, which as far as I know includes drivers for the 5850. The only extra step is installing a boot loader that supports ATI, and that can be done easily through #####, which includes a version of Chameleon with ATI 5xxx support.

Hope this helps.

hmm,

I checked off the Chameleon ATI Experimental Bootloader along with ATY_Init Uakari

and my system profiler still says I have a Radeon HD 4830. Still can't install final cut.

I am however running 10.6.3

I will update and try again.

thanks

Don't mind i ask how exactly did you install the ##### into the Asus P6X58D? I have the deluxe ver & looking into upgrading the existing sys graphics. In my impression, ##### only supports Gigabyte boards. I'm looking for a solution which is as painless as possible, so far i read, many involves fiddling the kexts & DSDT.

What am i missing here?

Thanks a million!! ;)

Sorry I didn't reply sooner.

Personally I used all the files from the Extra folder downloaded from the Snow Leopard 10.6.4 on P6X58D Premium thread. Afterwards, I used the ##### bootloader to install the experimental ATI bootloader and nothing else. Next I added SleepEnabler.kext, and removed NullCPUPowerManagement.kext (this caused a conflict with SleepEnabler and the 64-bit kernel). This is actually better if you don't overclock. If you do plan to overclock, you're better off leaving NullCPUPM in place and using 32-bit for now, as otherwise you won't have functional sleep.

Remember that each time you've made a difference to the extensions you should run Kext Utility. Also, GraphicsEnabler should be "yes" in com.Apple.boot.plist, and you can add arch=x86_64 to Kernel Flags if you wish to boot in 64-bit mode.

I hope that this post helps you.

tried with just the ATI experimental bootloader and the plist graphics enabler=no

and got this message upon boot

Kernel Extensions in backtrace (with dependencies):

sk.triaxis.kext.SleepEnabler(1.0.0)@0x28535000->0x28536fff

arggggg

Are you on 10.6.5? This includes drivers for the 5850, so you only need the ATI experimental loader and GraphicsEnabler=yes. With GraphicsEnabler=no I had problems with stability.
