Run OSX as Guest when running Windows "boot camp"

Got an MBP, need windows and osx, but I need native speed in windows, not in OSX. VMWare Fusion will allow me to run my Windows boot-camp partition as a VM inside of OSX. Has anyone managed to do the opposite: Boot to windows, and then run the OSX partition as a VM inside of windows?

Yes I have managed to get mac running in virtualbox inside windows. If I understand what you are trying to do you want to install windows on a mac book pro then run snow leopard in a virtual machine right? all I want to know is why would you want to do that? do you have a really small hard drive? mac running in virtual is almost useless you are better off with a dual boot machine. Could be an interesting twist for this forum installing windows on an apple computer its amazing to me what some people would rather have instead of money

That's not what he's asking. He wants to know if it's possible to boot his real OS X installation inside a VM in Windows.

I figured somebody here might know since the two topics seem to be:

 

1) how to run OSX as a Guest OS inside VBox/Vmware

2) how to install OSX onto PC hardware

 

Since the first involves dealing with virtual drivers and faking OSX into thinking its running native, and the second involves getting OSX to use real physical partitions on non EFI hardware, I thought my problem might be a reasonable combination of the two.

 

To add more detail: I have a 13" 2.5Ghz C2D 8Gb MBP with two partitions on a 240GB SSD: real OSX, and boot-camped windows 7 x64. When I need native speed in either I run them native. However, because of my work I regularly need to be native in windows yet have access to OSX. In these cases, the speed of OSX is of secondary concern to the speed of windows. Otherwise I'd just Fusion my boot-camp windows. There are times when I'm native OSX and need to run some windows program and I use Fusion for that (though I'm going to try parallels).

 

I would like, therefor, to be able to run my real OSX partition in a VM under windows, just as I can run my windows partition as a VM under OSX.

 

This seemed like the place to ask. For now I have a 2xC2Q Windows 7 PC that I work on and use Synergy to work with the laptop. But I can't take that set-up with me. If someone can solve my problem I'd pay $200 over paypal. It would also be legal and marketable (though IANAL).

Read my follow-up post. I have a dual boot machine, and two HDs in my MBP.

What you are asking for is a version of parallels the runs in windows i'm guessing and $200 bucks is no where near what that would cost in development maybe if you hire a staff of programmers and buy the rights to do such a this from Mr. Job's you might get it in 3-5 years for under a million maybe It is an interesting proposal that would be great to have but I don't expect apple to allow such a thing to ever happen and I think it may be out of the realm of this or any other forum I can think of (we can't even get a kext for intel GMA4500!) but even if such a thing could be developed it would, I think have to run on a windows machine anyway very cool idea but it ain't going to happen your best bet would be to dual boot I know this is not what you want to hear but, as I said I have snow leo running in a virtual machine inside windows and its all but unusable except for internet browsing and you cannot even get full screen or sound to work at all

Ok, you're saying even if I did get it working SL is {censored} under vmware. Funny how people posting howtos left that part out :-) I guess its OSX with virtual windows then.

I did not leave out a how to don't forget you are on an apple computer you want a how to on installing snow leo on virtualbox I will give it to you but that is not what you asked about I answered the question you asked to the best of my ability and, so you know running SL in virtualbox with windows installed on your MBP would not work more then likely b ut again posting a how to to install a useless system is not something the people here want
