Ricorich196
Hey guys just got back to working on my Hackintosh setup, currently I have an HP A6620f running Leopard 10.5.7. The integrated intel graphics don't allow any resolutions above VGA so I've been looking for a video card off of the HCL. I found an EVGA 8600GT 256MB (HCL:QE/CI Both fully functional/All resoultions/Fully working, dual display and hw accelerated) but before I buy it, the HCL says install using efi string using OSX86 Tools. Now my question is is that really as simple as it is? I haven't used OSX86 Tools for much of anything last I could remember so is it a simple process to get this card installed? Thanks in advance. In Snow Leopard enabling QE/CI with 8600GT is easy: With almost Chameleon 2.0 RC3 with PC-EFI 10.5 (Optimum is Chameleon 2.0 RC4 alone) and GraphicsEnabler activated in com.apple.Boot.plist works fine. I would prefer a version with 512 MB
zicoos
Also, one good alternative is the 8400GS, you can find new ones with 512MB (Point of view, Zotac etc.) for 30-40$ (at least in my country, I doubt it's much different where you are). Good luck! (That is just a low end card, but very compatible; also it has DVI/VGA/HDMI)

I'm really confused though, I already have 10.5.7 installed, can I not just buy the card, put it in my system and go from there? Or do I have to redo my installation? Looking a bit further into the topic it just seems that OSX86Tools will let me just add the necessary efi strings to the preferences.plist. Also if I have to redo my installation should I just try to install snow leopard instead?
zicoos
You can just plug in the card, but you will have to remove the previous kexts you used for a previous card, possibly fix permissions, remove Extensions.mkext in /System/Library and edit the com.apple.boot.plist (/Extra/com.apple.Boot.plist) Edit with text editor and if you dont have <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>Yes</string> add it. Okay cool. I'll do a little shopping around for a card and I'll update this thread when I get it. Thanks a lot for your help zicoos.
