Ed
Rumors are abound that the recently announced Mac App Store could be launch as early as next Monday, the 13th of December. When the dedicated Mac software store was announced by Apple on October 20th, it was slated to launch "within 90 days" which would fall inline with Apple's usual flurry of announcements and launches in January. However, it would appear that Steve's worked his team hard in order to get a release in ahead of Christmas when no doubt many people will be unwrapping brand new Macs for Christmas. This rumor also coincides with other reports of leaked betas of Mac OS X 10.6.6 featuring support for the forthcoming Mac App Store.
BslBryan
It would certainly make sense. Steve Jobs would make a really smart move - people will buy it whether it's bug free or not. But rumors are rumors and we'll just have to wait and see.
madwh
And then in a couple years when the app store is the de facto method to install a program in os x, all of a sudden and out of nowhere a silent update breaks the ability to install programs directly from the Internet through the web browser, then the steve jobs dictatorship would be complete. I would completely stop buying any apple hardware, except maybe (just maybe) ios devices but only as long as it remains a "mobile" os and people don't replace their real os with it. (or if apple would open it up of course)
