Hello!

Just sharing that the Asus G73JW works beautifully on Snow Leopard 10.6.5

I have Windows 7 on one hard drive and Snow Leopard on the other. Make sure you install Windows 7 first.

SL Install:

1. Remove 2 sticks of RAM, leaving your system with 4096mb. I also took out the HD with Windows 7 on it.

2. Boot with Empire EFI Disc (press ESC to select your CD drive)

http://prasys.info/2010/07/empireefi-1-085...-10-6-3-is-out/

3. Start your install with options

-x -v cpus=1 busratio=12 idlehalt=0 maxmem=4096

4. After the installer loads, and goto Disc Utility to set up your hard drive.

Click on 'Options' and don't forget to set to partition with a GUID. Now you can install!

5. For some reason, after the Snow Leopard installer is almost done, it will say the install could not be finished. It's fine - it just means the install couldn't set the boot drive to the drive you just installed to, but don't worry. Click restart.

6. Boot with Empire EFI Disc, again.

Now, select your new Snow Leopard install. The intro video should play (but it'll look horrible.)

You should arrive at the desktop after all the registration stuff.

Awesome! Now, I rebooted, with the Empire EFI disc again to see if I could get back into the desktop.

7. After a successful restart - I installed the 10.6.5 Combo Update but when it's done, do not reboot!

Note: turn off 'Computer Sleep' and 'Display Sleep' in the Energy Saver of System Preferences (I didn't do this, and walked away and came back and couldn't wake the machine up... had to start again)

8. Install ##### from tonymacx86. I chose, ##### and System Utilities. Don't reboot!

9. Install the nVidia update from tonymacx86

http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/11/upd...r-mac-os-x.html

10. You can reboot! And you should be greeted with beautiful 1920 x 1080 graphics with QE/CI

But, without a functioning keyboard, sound or wifi. Bluetooth works though (odd.)

11. Load up #####, and select the Voodoo PS2 kext, and also the Voodoo HDA 0.2.1 and system utilities to clear caches. Reboot.

12. You should have full sound and a working keyboard! The wifi, i'm not quite sure. I realized that it doesn't like N networks at all, it will connect but not transfer any data or get an IP address. I picked up a cheap G router (TP Link 340G) and used the 'Legacy Atheros' kext - http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=234570

and just finished writing this post.

You can also re-install your other hard drive and ram now. You have to set boot priority to Windows 7 for some reason or it won't boot (Windows 7 that is).

Now, i'm not sure how 'safe' it is to run Snow Leopard on it for a long period of time, I just got this machine and it's wonderful - I will however try to monitor HW temperatures and actually work on this machine for a day and see how it goes.

Good luck to anyone who tries!

Hi guys

Just to update on progress and how the machine runs Snow Leopard - lets say, it runs, but there are major panic issues which makes it rather unusable, i'm not sure whether to try another method of installation or what...

If anyone else has tips about how to get the machine to run it smoothly - do let me know

Cheers

 • 4 weeks later...

Hey, nice guide, my first mac os install, so the only thing not working that I can see now is the sound, I installed the voodooHDA 0.2.1 kext as you mentioned it worked for you. So I tried to install another one over it, and my system fails now, can't boot, so just trying to fix it atm without having to reinstall everything.

So any ideas why the sounds isnt working for me? Also I got the wireless to work, but not the LAN, did you find any kexts for it by chance?

Can you please confirm that—after the first day you have installed SL in this laptop—you still have "major panic issues", is that a seldom thing, or it occurs often?

I am almost buying this laptop, so I would like to know.

Thanks.
