Since installing my system las months, I have had a great prototyping and testing experience with my hacktosh. However the last few days I have been noticing drive failures, complete system freezes, and just general problems booting etc. I have come the conclusion this was the result of my original test drive I used for the installation - a western digital 35.0GB raptor 15k rpms.

As of today I am preforming a clean installation and figured I might as well create a step to step guide for anyone else, who has beat their heads against the walls with a similar transitional setup.

I will be including some screens, and system pictures on completion of the thread.

Here are the specs of my base setup.

Hi All,

I am having a pretty annoying problem with my Diamond 5870, seems no matter what I do or Framebuffer I use I cannot get it to work. Every time I boot, I get greeted by the sound of my graphics card fans running at 100% with no video. Tried switching ports, etc still nothing, tried using a custom rom and others off the interweb. Any suggestions? Thanks

Installation: Osx 10.6.4 (installed vanilla, then did combo update)

My Specs:

Motherboard: Evga x58 Classified x3

Ram: 12GB

Video: Diamond 5870 1GB in Slot 1

Update #4

Looks like I now have it working, still missing displays on second DVI and DP connections. Here are new outputs from system profiler. Seems that osx thought I had already done the recent graphics update, so I installed it manually and now it seems like its working. Is there any thing special I have to do to get the other two screens recognized?

Thank you

I noticed that if I told my my boot plist not to load the rom for the video card and I force the bootloader to use various AtiFb's I just get the same problem where I started. Full Fans 100% and no screens.

Update #7

It appears that I got this working, maybe it was more of an issue of sitting down and trying all possible methods until the problem was solved. The frame buffer that ended up working was Uakari.

I included a screenshot (warning its 6144 × 1152)

I have also included the boot file used, my dsdt.aml, and my Extras folder for anyone else who has an EVGA Classied x3 Board and a Ati 5870 - tricky.

Thank you!
