So I'm on a Toshiba r25 tablet. It's almost identical to a MacBook, except with a 1600 Mhz Core Duo and an Intel 3945 wireless card. I was getting an APIC error on install, but I disabled just about everything in my TBIOS (hold ESC) and got it to install. I had to make my own kernel (mach_kernel with the base patch installed) in order to keep it from going black and then restarting on startup. Now, I can get to the blue desktop with a working cursor, but the "Starting Mac OS X" dialog never appears.

I have used the Owned patch with no print drivers, the Italian language pack, and the 10.4.5/6 patches. I originally had tried to install with the SSE3 kernel, but I ran into this wall. I figured that the hangs on startup had caused loginwindow to corrupt, and it didn't know to launch because their were no user accounts. I reinstalled without the SSE3 kernel and built my own, but I still have this problem.

I am thinking about installing from my restore DVD with the Maxxuss instruction set, but I would love to hear your thoughts on this issue. Anyone know why it would stop startup here? I may also try patching loginwindow myself.

Thanks!

Try the two wire trick in the VGA port:

i dont think its a monitor problem, its most likely a problem with the install, try re-installing using a different image. if you are getting the cursor then your fine, i have a problem with my video card (intel GMA 915) and unless i have a monitor or tv pluged into it, it wont get passed the grey apple screen. Another problem may be that you enabled patches that werent for your hardware.

hope i was a help

unless i have a monitor or tv pluged into it, it wont get passed the grey apple screen

Other people have described getting to the blue screen before it freezes. Adding a VGA dongle or the 2-wire trick gets them past that.

It doesn't take long to try and might work.

Wow. You guys are fast!

In the time I've been away I've been trying to install without 4.6. I am getting panics on install (it happened this morning once too). I'm gonna give it a rest and then try again in a bit.

For the record, I had already read about the monitor trick and tried it on my first install. It didn't help, but thanks for the thought. (It was just mirroring - makes sense as the edges of my screen were also my cursor bounds)

BTW, I got 10.4.4 to install last night and it has the same problem, although the first time I turned it on it stayed in console mode. It mentioned that it couldn't find my video card family (even thought it's a GMA950) and then said it was starting Login Window, and then I got a bunch of mDNS errors and directoryServices errors about not having a root user. Then it would say sleeping, will try again.

Maybe tonight after work I'll try to install off the restore DVD. Anyone have any insight into this issue?

Thanks,

BTW, I saw something in the Wiki about a blue window and colorwheel meaning Rosetta is f*cked up. I don't have a beachball, and I tested with mach_kernel.all and it didn't seem to help. Is there a better way to find out?

PROGRESS:

I have gotten it to work with the kernel off the cd. I haven't found a combination of patches that works independently yet. I figured a Core Duo would have perfect OS X support.

Things that are not yet working:

-The time (it has to be set on Portugal to be accurate)

-Sound

-Networking. Shouldn't at least the Intel PRO/100 VE work?

-The Tablet. TabletMagic doesn't recognize it

-Sleep panics it

-The Fingerprint Reader is shown in my System Profiler but I don't know how to use it in X

-The front buttons seem to do things but nothing good yet

-The Battery works with the patched PowerManagement.bundle from the 10.4.6 install guide, but it seems to be innaccurate (1:30 on what Windows rates at 3 hours on the same charge)

I haven't been able to tell how stable it is, but I don't know how much use I can get out of it. I'm gonna play with it a bit now to see how it runs. Anyone with tips on Networking, Sound, Tablet, etc. please write back. =) Patched AC97 didn't seem to help.

Thanks!

I figured out how to add networking. The kext you patch is in the IONetworking Plugins Folder. Intel 8255x.kext. Add 0x10928080 (0x10918080 is the current value).
