Hi everybody. I recently succeed to install SL on my desktop fully working. A couple of hours ago though I got a few process frozen which would prevent me from shutdown or reboot or even log out. Therefor I just hold the power button to cut out the surge power and get it finally to shutdown. Since then I'm having this little issue when booting: after the first screen I get a few lines of some errors like these:

Ebios read error: device timeout

block 0x0 sector 0

They get repeated for bout 4-5 times and then everything continue smoothly: I get chamaleon & SL online without any further prob..the thing is that these lines don't really make me feel any good bout it & I REALLY would like to get rid of them..any suggestion??

These are my specs:

Mob: Gygabyte P55A-UD3 (Chipset A89T)

CPU: Intel Core i5 750 @2.67GHz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX260 (ASUS G80)

HD: ATA-SATA 500GB

OS: W7 & SL in dual boot on the same HD

Another little issue involve my webcam: I own a Microsoft VX-5000 which is NOT meant to work under MAC OSx ...BUT which I got fully working (don't know how..) during my very first installation of SL (that was the day before yesterday...and so far I had to re-install it around a dozen times to get it fully working..). Now the situation is kinda odd cause I can see it plugged in from the System Profiler, under the submenu "USB", and recognized as well from the system BUT if I open for eg "image capture" it says "NO camera or scanner connected" whereas if I open "Photo Booth" from the upper menu "camera" I can see that it's correctly recognized BUT I can't see anything in the main window (completely BLACK)...so....WTF?!?

Thank you everybody..

Any help would be appreciate!

Ok..here is the news: still got the error at the boot but I figured out something bout the cam..it's recognized "just" as a microphone..in fact it activate immediately if I access to the mic properties!

So..it recognize just the "sound recording part" of the device..but not the video one...any ideas on how to activate it??

Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate -_-

I'm having a look at the guide you linked and fixing a couple of things as I'm re-installing at the moment following part of the procedures I found there.

By the way, I'm using iAtkos V2 S3 customized just with the nVidia drivers I needed to get the graphic card to work & the Realtek Ethernet port which I needed to be able to connect to the net. A part from those "patch" a few others: USB Busfix + Ethernet (Bootloader Option) ..again USB (Main Hardware)...nothing else..

I can't update with the combo pack as I just tried and the result was I couldn't use anymore mouse & keyboard..

Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate

you're Welcome :P

please use a Original OSX Retail DVD, cost you just 29 bucks and you'll also support Apple, if you do so

NVIDIA GeForce GTX260

i'am using the same GraphicCard and IMHO this Card is fully supported by OSX !

what you have to do is, to set ' GraphicsEnabler ' to ' Yes' in your ' com.apple.Boot.plist ' file !

i attached mine just for comparison !!!

the second important part is the ' DSDT.aml ' file !

you can ask ' MaLd0n ', if he can help to patch and compile one for you, don't hesitate to ask :(:) !

DSDT Auto Patcher !!!

I can't update with the combo pack as I just tried and the result was I couldn't use anymore mouse & keyboard..

did you use this Update ?

ComboUpdate !!!

Ok..here we are...

So: I solved few of my problems (keybord+mous lost after update) patching the combo update with ##### & I gained also fully recognition of the webcam which before was seen just as an external USB mic

I still have the problem of the Ebios Error which is related, as you correctly posted, (as far as I could understand..) with my DSDT..the only problem with using the auto-patcher is that my MoB is not yet supported :( ......BUT I found a workaround even for this (and don't ask me why cause I got NO idea..): when first running the iAtkos installer dvd I had to add this line as a boot option: -v (verbose mode) arch=x86_64 (making it run in 64bit mode) busratio=20 (to let the OS communicate correctly with the MoB) ..othrewise it would reboot endlessly when trying to start the install program....WELL: if I let it reboot JUST once..it would then skip the "Ebios read error" and start up normally!! O_O ...well now I rebooted other 8 times today to switch to W7 and back to OSx86 and NO errors showed up again so far :(

I'll see if it keeps going that good even in the next days..if it does I won't change a thing..if otherwise it just keeps giving me any trouble I'll try to find a solution with my DSDT as proposed..let's just cross our finger though :D

is your BIOS current ? < --- important, IMHO :)

don't hesitate to ask @MaLd0n if he can help, to create a patched DSDT.aml for your Hardware :D

DSDT Auto-Patcher !

Yeah. Bios iSrc ver 1.20E which as long as I now is the latest for my MoB. I'll follow the indications given in the DSDT thread to find out my one & I'll ask there for some help :D
