Hey i joined this forum, to get more knowledge about mac OS X its very well explaining and there are good tutorials here.

I downloaded nawcom bootcd to install MAC OS X 10.6 SL, i copied the OS X files onto my USB Stick and burned the bootcd.

The installer runs, i disk utility i can see my drives, i format the 30gb NTFS volume(aktive) to MAX OSX journaled to install to it.

Problem is, when i try to install the MAC OS X to any drive it says i have to format it to "GUID Partition" (GPT), i thought that nawcom bootcd uses the OSInstall patch to install to MBR partitions.

So why i cannt install on MBR partitions with Mac OS X Journaled format?

The icons in the installer show a yellow "!" and say that i have to install it to a GPT HDD.

My Machine:

Running Windows 7 x64

nForce 4 Chipset;

AMD Athlon 64 3700+

IDE WDC/Seagate HDD

Thanks alot for reading, hope you can understand my bad english.

I dont know if that must be modified but i already tried to modify it and it is not working.

In order for you to install or upgrade OS X 10.6 on MBR partitioned hard drive volumes you need a modified OSInstall.mpkg and OSInstall Unix executable file....to obtain these, I can do no better than point you to the links from Prasys' Blog....

There are two versions of OSInstall.mpkg......

Version 1. Prasys believes this version was made by Kabyl, modbin and ToH crew....

Version 2. This version removes checks on CPU , RAM requirements and other things as well, i.e. essentially skips all checks......

Hi, I too am unable to install on an MBR drive. I downloaded the files, but have no idea how to merge them into the installation cd?

I have my Snow Leopard 10.6.0 installation CD on a 8 GB USB drive, i find it installs much faster than on cd.

Anyways, Can you tell me how to put those files into the installation and where? Thanks, or direct to a forum that discussed this. Been lookin everywhere

(( You would think when Nawcom says that the cd is MBR friendly... it would be right out the box instead of havin to download other files (that he doesnt mention) ))

thanks in advance

**** UPDATE ****

I figured that the OSInstall.mpkg was probably hidden, so I went into terminal (( Please note, I used another hackintosh system I had so I could set up my CD))

I went into terminal and typed defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES

typed my password and all hidden files are shown

I was able to find the OSInstall.mpkg, and I replaced it with the one that Verdant pointed us to on this post

Anyways it did nothing for the MBR situation, still asks for GUID

The procedure for a USB flash driver installer (generally easier to set up than a CD/DVD installer if your MOBO can boot USB devices) is as follows (assuming that you will be including any necessary kexts to enable booting of your system and know how to include them, installer a bootloader, etc......)

If not, see my Snow Leopard Retail Install Guide Part C. but obviously use the kexts appropriate for your MOBO chipset + CPU combo (if not an nForce chipset + Intel CPU MOBO)

1. Unhide the hidden and systems files on your USB flash drive OSX_10.6_USB_Installer (or your chosen name without spaces) using Terminal commands or Tinker Tool....

2. Go to Terminal and type

cd /Volumes/"OSX_10.6_USB_Installer (or your chosen name without spaces)"/System/Installation/Packages/

sudo mv OSInstall.mpkg OSInstall.mpkg.GPT

cd /Volumes/"OSX_10.6_USB_Installer (or your chosen name without spaces)"/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A

sudo mv OSInstall OSInstall.GPT

exit

"I have renamed the original files as shown, as a reminder if ever you wish to revert back to the original GPT installer versions......simply rename the original files by removing the .GPT extensions again via Terminal :

cd /Volumes/"OSX_10.6_USB_Installer (or your chosen name without spaces)"/System/Installation/Packages/

sudo mv OSInstall.mpkg.GPT OSInstall.mpkg

cd /Volumes/"OSX_10.6_USB_Installer (or your chosen name without spaces)"/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A/

sudo mv OSInstall.GPT OSInstall

exit

3. Then either drag and drop (or use cp command via Terminal) the chosen version of OSInstall.mpkg into /Volumes/"OSX_10.6_USB_Installer (or your chosen name without spaces)"/System/Installation/Packages/

4. Then drag and drop (or use cp command via Terminal) OSInstall into /Volumes/"OSX_10.6_USB_Installer (or your chosen name without spaces)"/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Install.framework/Frameworks/OSInstall.framework/Versions/A/

5. Close all windows.......and then boot from the USB flash drive as normal......
