weijfo3ijrt3giTG
Hello Everyone, I was wondering if someone could help me brainstorm why this error in Disk Utility appears. How it happens is as follows: We made a disk image of a Mac OSX Snow Leopard Install Disk in Disk Utility on a machine running Leopard (10.5). We attempted to image the image onto a partition on a USB bootable drive on a machine running Snow Leopard. The attached error message appears and stops the imaging. I suspect it's a weird quirk in the new Disk Utility application that comes with Snow Leopard that sees images made by the Leopard version of Disk Utility as incompatible. Why? Because if I take the actual install disk and insert it in and image that onto the partition, it works fine, so I really think it's a problem with the disk image. It also works to image the image onto a partition of the drive if you do it on a machine running Leopard (not Snow). Thoughts? Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/237232-help-needed-disk-utility-error/ Share on other sites
Gringo Vermelho
I've seen that on Leopard too. It's not an error message. Just do what the dialog tells you to do (hint: look in the menu) Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/237232-help-needed-disk-utility-error/#findComment-1584145 Share on other sites
weijfo3ijrt3giTG
I did that in the menu- tough luck- didn't work. However, it didn't give me the dialog on Snow Leopard, only on Leopard. In Leopard it would work, probably because the image was made with a Leopard machine. On Snow Leopard Disk Utility seems to have problems restoring images made on Leopard machines to partitions. Gringo Vermelho
Thanks, good to know....fortunately I haven't had to do that yet. One more reason to keep a 10.5.8 install around. The other being that 10.5.x can read and write to older format Apple disk images.
