Spelljammer
I just applied the 10.6.5 combo update for my system. Since initially installing 10.6, I had had success with using a Dell GTX 260 1792mb video card that came with my alienware desktop. I had full working graphics by adding my device ID into the 2 following files: NVDAResman.kext and NVDANV50Hal.kext. This worked well for me for each 10.6.x update. I would install the combo update, and before the restart, reinsert the device ID into the new updated files. As of 10.6.5 though, the format of the info.plist has changed substantually in the NVDAResman.kext, and I no longer see the device ID section / entries in the file. I seem to have the correct resolution for my monitor, but QE/CI don't seem to be working. my screensavers do not work correctly, and games such as WoW and Starcraft II won't launch. Below is my entry for Graphics / Displays in System Profiler. I'm hoping that one of the gurus out there have time to take a look over the new info.plist file in the 10.6.5 NVDAResman.kext and possibly provide some help and/or guidance for me, to resolve my issue. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! nVidia GeForce GTX 260: Chipset Model: nVidia GeForce GTX 260 Type: GPU Bus: PCIe PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 1792 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x05ea Revision ID: 0x00a1 ROM Revision: nVidia GeForce GTX 260 OpenGL Engine [EFI] Displays: Display: Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Display Connector: Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/236989-1065-update-and-dell-gtx-260-1792mb-video-card-troubles/ Share on other sites
Dellmantt
Did you backup before installing update? Especially Extension folder! If not extract the older kexts from the 10.6.4 update (Pacifist) Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/236989-1065-update-and-dell-gtx-260-1792mb-video-card-troubles/#findComment-1582209 Share on other sites

If not extract the older kexts from the 10.6.4 update (Pacifist) I do have a backup, but my reason for updating to 10.6.5 was the performance gains in gaming graphics that's listed as one of the improvments lol, though I guess it may be my only option at this point. Well at least you can get your video hardware acceleration back until you can work out how to do it with the new kexts Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/236989-1065-update-and-dell-gtx-260-1792mb-video-card-troubles/#findComment-1582244 Share on other sites
dothacker
the gains mostly work with the cards that are natively supported by mac os x, i may think so...
