pestly
First off, sorry for posting this here. I really need a quick response and since no amount of time was easily found by me for how long I had to wait before I could post anywhere, I decided I'd rather put this in here. Feel free to put me past the wait and move this thread to an appropriate spot if a mod is upset over it. So, I've had an idea cooking for a while that I think I might be wanting to act on soon. Right now I own a netbook (Asus Eee 1005HA) that I'd like to exchange for a more powerful machine, but as of right now I'm too low on cash to get moving on that. Putting an exchange aside, I'd really like to own a Mac - even if it didn't have OS X, the hardware itself is gorgeous and since everything I do (web development) is very easily done on my OS of choice, Linux, I'm more than happy to not worry about any insecurities of hackintoshing (sorry, but it just doesn't seem like worth the effort to me). The whole time I was trying to think of what to do, however, I had a great idea in the back of my mind that I'm wanting to execute. I'd like to put a netbook in a Mac. What I mean is, I'd like to get a Macbook/Macbook Pro case/motherboard off eBay and put whatever hardware from my netbook I can in there and simply use the Macbook as a "case upgrade", maybe do some hardware upgrades later such as RAM and the graphics card. I'd really like to use the Macbook Pro case (unibody and whatnot) but if for some reason that can't be done without breaking something I wouldn't mind using a normal Macbook case. Now, what would I have to do to do this? Also, I'm noticing that most of these "for repair" listings are only the bottom (keyboard, trackpad, etc.) or the screen and never actually together... is that an easy thing to attach or would I have to somehow find one that wasn't detached? Thanks for reading and lemme know what your thoughts are, and feel free to rip off my idea if you provide some help
pestly
Sorry for the bump, but seeing as how this topic was completely ignored I'd like to put it back up where it belongs.
dothacker
I think the reason why it was ignored is because it's LUDACRIS!
Swhay
Putting a netbook motherboard inside a Macbook I am sorry to say will not work. It would be easier to hackintosh a netbook then to do what you suggest. Your other option is to sell the netbook, and scrap up some cash to buy a used Macbook. Although not dirt cheap, a white 13" Macbook can be had for around $500.00 USD. I bought one for my mother-in-law for $525.00 and she loves it. It runs the latest version of Snow leopard and it's a good machine for basic internet, e-mail,photo editing etc might even be able to do some light video editing. Here is a link for a list of the best used Mac deals. Lowendmac
pestly
Not only did I not mention putting a netbook motherboard in a Macbook, I specifically said I would be USING the Macbook's original motherboard. I'd pilfer whatever I could from the netbook other than that. Also, I'd run Linux on it, NOT OS X.
dothacker
then do it, and tell us if it's worth the trouble.
Dellmantt
Not only did I not mention putting a netbook motherboard in a Macbook, I specifically said I would be USING the Macbook's original motherboard. I'd pilfer whatever I could from the netbook other than that. I didn't construe it that way. maybe you could have explained it better. And NO parts from your net book are not going to fit, excluding the hard drive and RAM depending on compatibility. Also, I'd run Linux on it, NOT OS X. Why then post this question on a forum that is about running OS X on non apple hardware
pestly
Says who? I have a feeling space isn't going to be an issue considering I'm putting things made for a small space into a big space. derp. And I would have put this in the Apple hardware section on here, but the new user restrictions stop any chance of that.
dothacker
Like what Dellmantt mentioned, the only thing you can get out of the netbook that will be useable are HDD and RAM, depending on compatibility. Now, like what I mentioned earlier, go ahead and do it... then let us know if it was worth the trouble. We gave you our opinion, but those are just our opinions. It's up to you if you want to do it or not. It's not like we can stop you from doing it.
