Ok guys part 2 here...

I'm on an old HP media center m480n that usually runs XP media edition but I've been trying to upgrade it to OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard either or it doesn't matter to me! It's a P4 3.2GHZ 512MB RAM 200GB HDD. At first I tried ideneb but no luck so I have decided to try #####.

I have a snow leopard DVD and the ##### DVD and both work fine. I've been using this guide http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2010/04/ibo...ac-os-x-on.html

I will also post pics of it kernel panicking. If someone who knows how to read the info. in these pics and tell me what I need to do next I'd be most grateful :D

(These are all the same screen, I just took multiple shots to fit all the info. in hope you can read it ok!)

I'd recommend to use older versions for older hardware. The guide you are referring to is aimed for more modern hardware which can run a vanilla OS X kernel.

Try installing such an old but simple to install distro like Kalyway 10.5.1 Intel SSE2/SSE3. Select no drivers in customize. Do select BOOTLOADER EFI>boot_efi_guid and be sure to install to GPT partitioned disk.

Also whichever version you would be planing to install - always use a patched kernel. The vanilla one WILL NOT RUN WITH P4!

Ok cool. That makes perfect sense, old hardware=older software to install!

Downloading Kalyway right now and will follow your instructions, I'll post back with the results. Also when you say patched kernel, you mean the version of OS X patched for PC use, right?

Thanks for the help mate!

EDIT: How do I get to the custom install screen?

How do I get to the custom install screen?

Watch

4:14. Though you may only need to use -v boot flag (the one that is typed after pressing F8 0:40).
Also when you say patched kernel, you mean the version of OS X patched for PC use, right?
Vanilla kernel is the kernel created by Apple and contains NO modifications whatsoever (provided by Apple “as is” and distributed as a pre-compiled binary with any retail OS X installation media). This kernel can only run on supported CPUs. It will not run on any unsupported CPU! Patched kernel is the kernel modified by a third party using Apple officially released source code. Modifications applied are targeted to make the kernel more “tolerant” to unsupported CPUs, those enabling OS X to run on unsupported hardware as it runs on any Intel Mac (in some cases even better). Such kernel most (depending on the modifications applied) probably will run on any Intel CPU supporting SSE2&SSE3 instruction set (some kernels may support AMD CPUs as well).

Ok thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I know the customize screen isn't until after you start the Mac OS X setup the problem is I can't get there lol

I have kalyway 10.5.1, which isn't a vanilla kernel, and I've been stuck on a boot loop since I gave up last night! I tried booting with -v but that didn't fix anything. I searched the forums and tried booting with cpus=1 and then I tried -v -x -y cpus=1 as shown in that video you linked but it just kept looping!

I'm searching for a solution but if you could tell me how to get it to boot you'd be tops in my book! If you need me to post any info. i.e. screen pics or something let me know!

Also I would really prefer leopard or snow leopard but would there be any advantage to trying a Tiger install or would it be a waste of time?

Thanks!

EDIT: Just tried booting with tohkernel cpus=1 but no luck.

IDK I read that putting cpus=1 could keep it from rebooting.

So far all I have done is download kalyway 10.5.1 and boot from that (I gave up #####) and now it's on the infnite boot loop. After searching around and from the help of 3.14r2 I have been trying to boot with -v, -y, -x, and cpus=1 but none have fixed the problem.

I haven't changed anything in the BIOS, is that a problem? I'm not familiar with the BIOS at all...

You need legacyapplelpc.kext in extra/extensions

and try to follow this guide http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=186609

The problem isn't that it's panicking anymore but rather the boot loop. I stopped trying with ##### after I was told that's for newer hardware and not P4s. Would this still work/fix the boot loop?

Also how do I install a patch?

Thanks!

Ok this is maddening!

I'm using Kalyway 10.5.2 and it keeps rebooting. I have tried every boot flag that I could find and it just does the same thing every time! I'm downloading Jas 10.4 and am going to try that but I'm determined now to make kalyway work lol.

So, the bios? I've gone into my bios but I don't see any options for AHCI or anything else. All I see are Master and Slave settings and then I have system management, power, and something else (darn don't remember) but I have none of those option mentioned in the vids and posts I have seen. I've found others who don't have those options but no solution to it.

What info. do you guys need to help me fix this? I'm almost ready to offer a cash reward for anybody who can help me get this going lol...I have way to much free time...wait scratch that I have no free time I do this when I should be sleeping lol
