NeoNihilist
Hello everyone. This is my first question on this site, so Hello everybody, pleased to meet you hackintosh guys. I plan to build a powerful hackintosh from scratch, so my first question will be on the mobo. I always heard that the closer you get to the original components found in Apple hardware, the less you have to patch, the more likely you are to build a stable functional MacOS system - Obviously. So I heard here and there that it's strongly recommanded / absolutely mandatory to have a mobo with ICH10/P45 or P55 (X58 "compatible but more expensive"), Sound Realtek ALC889a or ALC 888, LAN Realtek RT81xx, Gigabyte being the most used ones. I've checked the whole compatibility list for SL in OSx86Wiki, and I've read maybe all the topics related to mobos in this forum lol. It seems that the Gigabyte GAX58A-UD3R is a classic and, indeed, it matches all the chipsets cited. But in fact, i've seen guides on this forum for ALL types and brands of motherboards, regardless of the chipset, I even see AMD-based hackintoshes!? For my mobo I want something USB 3.0 / SATA 6 GB ready - yes, I know it's not working yet... I would go for a Gigabyte GA-X58-UD3R or UD5, an Asus P5X58D-E or Premium, and I'm HIGHLY seduced by the new Asus SabertoothX58... So far almost no one uses it, but I've seen one guide in italian on this forum, it seems to work for the guy... So my questions are: - What are the real odds that make a mobo compatible or not? Why is it for example that the X58 chipset works just fine yet it's not in any Apple hardware? - What mobo would you advise me between the ones I've mentioned? (Stable, reliable, knowing that I plan to put a (very)good graphic card and I plan to overclock )? Thanks by advance...

NeoNihilist
hello and welcome to the jungle , look here TonyMac86 Blog !!! CooSee ' Ya Thanks CooSee! I already went to this blog indeed... Even this page I think... Let's take the config #3; is there a problem if I replace the mobo with a X58 one like the GAX58A-UD3R or UD5 (still the same audio / LAN chips) and if I replace the CPU with an i7 950? Also, There are things that I really don't get with graphic cards but in order to stay on topic, I will post another thread... Immediately. GigaByte Boards are really great for OSX86, but why ' Socket 1366 ' and not ' Socket 1156 ' ? don't waste your Money !!! the second one is cheaper and better to save electricity !!! IMHO Nvidia is the best choice ( except GTX 460 ). never used ATI and never will ! CooSee ' Ya

Maybe I forgot to tell you that I project to overclock... How would you explain all these people building their Hackintosh with high-end Asus X58 cards then? And concerning the GFX card > GREAT! You can answer my newbie question #2 that I just posted Thanks dude

USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0 GB, i personally wait a little bit, before i switch to new Standards ! NeoNihilist
USB 3.0 and SATA 6.0 GB, i personally wait a little bit, before i switch to new Standards ! These technologies will be fully operational in one year, or a little more. If I invest now a significant amount of money for a good computer, I prefer it to be ready for the next update I can see coming. My computers usually last about five years (I had a Pentium IV for almost eight years... Then I switched to MacBook Pro.... Imagine ) o.k. go for it, but don't blame me, if your ' kitten ' explode Don't worry I know how to use a computer... And if something bad happens, I won't blame you I promise
