darkbayleef
Hi everyone. I made a post a few days ago about my new (well old but I just got it) PowerMac G5. Thanks to the useful posts given I've reached two conclusions. I could either attempt to upgrade the logic board and processor to Intel which will be quite expensive, upgrade it a little bit to a 2.5GHz PPC logic board and processor (still expensive); or I could rip all the parts out of it and rebuild it as a hackintosh with a compatible motherboard, new graphics card (64mb VRAM IS NOT ENOUGH!), blu-ray drive, and new RAM. As a side note, this is not my only computer, I plan to turn this into a general work station and a multimedia centre for my large collection of movies, music, and photos (but mostly Serious Business, my new MBP is for fun and games). My most important question about this is can I use ANY MacIntel logic board, or MUST it be PowerMac / Mac Pro? I was hoping to use an iMac one if possible to save cash, but I'm not sure if this will support all the PCI cards, graphics card, etc. Opinions anyone? Thanks heaps. Nathan Bellowe
Absolutely rip everything out. I have been in similar situations, and to build an entirely new computer is the same cost as to buy a logic board for the mac pro. Also, the imac logic board would not save you money,

Also, the imac logic board would not save you money, I think that's what I might do actually. The advantages outweight the costs and time. The iMac one would save me around $200, iMac logic boards are around $4-600 on eBay, Mac Pro boards cost anywhere from $600 upwards. Thanks for the input. Mushishi
But imac logic boards dont have any pci or pcie ports as it is basic a laptop logic board. And the ports wont fit the ones on the case as the ports on the imac turn the wrong way. So i would strip it and then mod the case to fit a normal pc motherboard and then build a hack from it. 3.14r2
If you sell your Mac parts, you could build a very good machine (with PC components unfortunately). Parts for Macs (even used ones) are expensive
