HD5145 is, unfortunately, another Mobility Radeeon part (same applies to HD54xx). Though there are desktop iterations of these normally-portable parts, they aren't used in Macs (and the portable iterations aren't used in MacBooks or MBPs). The MR series parts are going to doubtless be just as bad, if not worse, to get configured as the older MR HD34xx (especially HD3450) remains. (I had, in fact, moved on from the HD3450 in PCIe for that reason, despite that it actually had decent performance in Windows for a bottom-end card; the HD5450, due to twice the RAM, performs even better. I wish I had known that AMD had once again wrapped a Mobility Radeon part in desktop clothing, and therefore made it difficult to use such a part in Hacks; as it is, I'll be looking toward either a known-non-MR HD68xx or lowball HD57xx as an up/crossgrade.) bombai
Hi, PGHammer thanks for you explain. Finally, i did can work the card with an HD4890 kext, but with less resolution, the card is 1600x900 and with this kext i cant put it more than 1024x768. I have another problems after 10.6.4 update, it dont work bluetooth, any usb drive, and I have integrated sound ALC269 and i cant listen any from it. Do you know some about this issues? Thanks. Unfortunately, I can't help there; unlike you, I'm driving a desktop Hack (hence my reference to a Mobility part in desktop clothing) and I'm running VoodooHDA for the audio, have no USB issues (my keyboard/mouse/printer are all USB and work just fine; in fact, both keyboard and mouse are wireless, and I have a USB wireless-N stick with PC/OS X/Linux drivers that works in SL without hacks) and, on the video side, I'm using the same kext *you* likely are (ATY_Init, which is 32-bit-only). After a trainload of Kitchen Pitchin (kernel panics) over this week, either someone else will solve the MR HD5xxx issues ahead of me, or I'll upgrade to something like HD57xx as the prices go into freefall with HD6xxx launches in progress. On the printer - it's an HP Deskjet 940C that I've had for six years. I had originally bought it in 2005, while I was still running XP (first Professional, than MCE). Despite all the OSes I've had cross my desk since then, it has *never* failed to work - if the OS sees the printer, it will print from it. Windows, Linux distributions, OS X (in fact, all the way back to, surprisingly, *Tiger*) even UNIX (specifically Solaris 9 and later). I have called it the very definition of *Plug and Print*, as I never have to go hunting for printer drivers, either. (While it also supports standard printer ports, I've used it exclusively as a USB printer.) If you remember BYTE Magazine, Jerry Pournelle spoke lovingly of an original HP LaserJet, calling it the "Printer That Would Not Die". This USB marvel has maintained the same sort of reliability - as long as I keep it fed (ink and paper), it will print - and print - and print.
