Gatorman
So, I'm working on putting together my Hackintosh in my slick G5 case I picked up. Before I cut them, I was wondering if anybody has used the original Optical Drive/Hard Drive Power Cable to power any drives/HDD's in the case. If so, what cable did you use to hook it up to the Power Supply? I tried looking around here, but was unsuccessful so far in finding my answer. Thanks. Buzze
Hi, I used the original cable to supply HDDs, HDD fans and optical drive with power. I just connected the regular power supply cables to a connector fitting the Apple one (Molex Mini-Fit Jr.) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/235115-g5-opticalhard-drive-power-cable/#findComment-1570458 Share on other sites
Gatorman
Hi,I used the original cable to supply HDDs, HDD fans and optical drive with power. I just connected the regular power supply cables to a connector fitting the Apple one (Molex Mini-Fit Jr.) Oh, hey! Thanks! I've been trying to find a cable that would work...didn't think of looking for the plug and just wiring it myself. Do you know the pinout for the original cable? I can't seem to find the service manual online to figure that out. If not, no worries. I can hunt it down. Thanks! BlackCH
I've kept the original cables and just exchange the connector for a regular 4 pin female molex so I can connect it directly to any power supply. For the pinouts you can look in the web. For example SATA: http://pinouts.ru/Power/sata-power_pinout.shtml and Molex: http://pinouts.ru/Power/BigPower_pinout.shtml Note you dont need to wire 3.3 volts to the sata power connection. Gatorman
Hey Buzze, What's the other side of that cable look like? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/235115-g5-opticalhard-drive-power-cable/#findComment-1606641 Share on other sites
Buzze
The other side of the cable is the connectors to my computer power supply, Enermax standard connectors. I made the complete wire from scratch.
