Just wanted to get this topic going.

I wanted to try a Rampage III Gene and just got it up and running.

I wanted to post my Extra folder. Pretty basic stuff. I am using Chameleon RC5 bootloader.

I can't help actually getting this booted from a retail disc, I used my existing osx install and changed the /E/E and S/L/E contents.

Network was sorta hard to find, but from Windows device manager I could see the model. It is Intel 82567v-2. The IntelE1000e.kext in the folder included works fine, but I had to install to my S/L/E folder before it worked, it wouldn't work from /E/E.

Graphics took a second to figure out too, but I got my gtx470 booted using the new bootloader and GraphicsEnabler=y along with modded Nvidia kexts. For graphics this post helped: http://www.insanelym...howtopic=214219

Edit: I currently do not have a audio solution. VoodooHDA works fine for me while the system is up, but when it is in use the machine KPs during boot very frequently.

Update: 11/17/2010 - Updated gtx 470 drivers with new official drivers from Nvidia. Working great.

After update to 10.6.5 my restart fixed itself (still have evoReboot.kext in Extra), so now only nonworking feature for me is the audio. Finally got sound working with this modified VoodooHDA . What a hassle. My gfx card's "Digital-out HDMI" was the only audio device that could be seen. The modded VoodooHDA adds a section where you can skip a device. Voila.

I think the normal VoodooHDA should work for most people without a gfx card issue. This mobo is now fully working except usb 3.0 and sata revision 3 (waiting on Apple for those).

Alternate download Extra.zip: (no longer relevant for 10.7)

Update 02/07/2012 - To get to 10.7.2 I followed this guide http://www.insanelym...pic=267001&st=0

In order to boot from USB I had to delete the AppleTyMCE.kext from the S/L/E folder on the USB Boot drive created following this process. Then the drive booted and all was well :)

Hi,

I too am trying to use existing install and modifying kexts.

What kernel? I am using legacy_kernel from nawcom et.al. Vanilla kernel panic'd after fakesmc loading.

Is your SATA working normally? Mine is running very very slowly. Using the same kext.

I can only run by setting busratio=25 (for 980X) and -force64. Otherwise, I get spontaneous reboot after reports of disk errors.

Shut down and reboot do not work, are you seeing this?

I am using 82566 kext and it appears to work. Although I have not tested it extensively yet.

Video is a work in progress. I had a GTX260 running by EFI string in my previous build but it is not working yet in this one. The interim solution is an X1300.

I am not using dsdt.aml. Need to refigure out how this is done. Did you extract your dsdt from the ROM or system? What did you use to extract and what modifications?

Sorry for the long inquiry, there does not seem to be much support for Rampage IIIs on here.

Regrards,

ar

What kernel?

Vanilla 10.6.4

Is your SATA working normally?

It seems to be working just fine.

I am seeing the usual issues where CPU and hard drives will be halted, but fans keep spinning in the case and I have to hard reboot. I don't really shut down my machine so I haven't tested shutdown or sleep capability.

I think the RC5 bootloader with the graphics enabler flag is a good solution for most gfx cards now. If you search that card in these forums, Im sure there is plenty to be found.

I was able to boot up the first time using fakesmc and a DSDT from a rampage ii gene I found on these forums. I then created my own DSDT using http://www.kexts.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=131 and although I am sure it isnt perfect, it works fine so far.

Thats why I made this thread :) I am definitely not a pro, but it was harder for me to get the board working without any thread focused on it, so I figured I could help a little.

I'm currently trying to use ##### from tonymac but both nvidia and supported are not working for my rampage iii gene.

my serialatapi reconfiguration does not complete successfully

still waiting for root device.

how did you do it? You say you used cham rc5. I downloaded rc4 but need a guide after that point.

how did you did it? did you write a guide some where?

Unfortunately, because I installed OSX from a working hackintosh, I am not familiar with the ##### setup.

For the still waiting for root device error, I would search these forums, there are a million posts on that topic.

Have you edited your BIOS and set all your hard drive and RAID settings to AHCI?

I used RC5 mostly for the graphics injector for my 470 gtx. There are modded versions of rc4 that have the same functionality, if I remember correctly.

Good luck!

@ yourboyvic

Try moving your OSX hdd to SATA port 3 (the first non-SATAIII port)

I also had the "serialatapi reconfiguration does not complete successfully" message till i did just that.

Might help

@ Ben10

Any luck with the audio? Cant seem to get it working. Have tried the Taruga AD1988b ket but kernel panics before the installl completes.

I can get audio working fine with VoodooHDA.kext. By 'fine' I mean when the system boots it works fine, but more than half the time the system KPs at VoodooHDA.kext while booting the OS. So for now I am without sound as well.

I have been successfull so far with iHack method on a usb flash drive, default kexts configuration, GraphicsEnabler=y, HD plugged in SATA0 (the first "normal" sata in black). System is running solid for 24h now.

Shutdown and restart works. Even sleep as far as I can tell, but I don't use it anyway. I can boot in 32 & 64 bits also.

When I say successfull, I should precise that it doesn't include the onboard network and sound, as I have dedicated cards to handle those (a PCI-e for network and an external USB for sound). I think it is much easier to manage like this, even if it certainly adds a bit of $$$ at the end.

My config:

ASUS Rampage GENE III

i7 920 @ 3.2GHz

6GB Dominator 1600MHz

MSI 8400GS 512MB

SK-9E22 dual lan card

Behringer UCA202 usb soundcard

Antec 500W Earthwatts

Hello everyone,

I just got a rampage III gene and I haven't been able to boot when I have over 4 GB of ram installed. I used the kexts from ben's Extra.zip (I haven't tried using the dsdt though), to no avail. I have the 6 GB of RAM in a 2GB x 3 configuration, and if I remove one of those sticks, the system boots up just fine. Otherwise, it hangs during bootup, with the last few lines of text shown in verbose mode:

ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out
AppleTyMCEDriver:: start coreVIDPID = 0xffffffff Number of packages = 1 Number of cpus = 8 memory monitor trough MCA

System specs:

Asus Rampage III gene

OS X 10.6.4 Vanilla kernel

MSI R4850 512mb

6GB Transcend 1033 Ram

I disabled 6gb sata, usb3, firewire in the bios. I'm using AHCI mode.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ray

@maissiou23 other than the posts linked in the first post, the other one I referred to was the Rampage II Gene thread, although a bit of the hardware is different. Can find it here

@Ray_001 I havent seen that error before. I am using my RAM in a 2GBx3 config also. I would suggest re-downloading and installing a fresh copy of the latest fakesmc.kext (search around) as well as NulllCPUPowerManagement.kext

Good luck.

Actually, I just reread your post. Just try the DSDT before anything else. it will probably solve that problem.

Ben,

How is this board still working out for you? I'm looking to build a rig and I was wondering if the IIIG is a better buy then the IIG?

Thanks

I'm not sure how (if any) difference there is between the Gene and Formula, but I bought a Rampage III Formula a few weeks ago. I wanted to max this out as a pc and didn't plan on adding OSX to it since I already have 5 Gigabyte hackintoshes. But I got bored and started looking at the Formula. All works very well with only minor changes to S/L/E (Voodoo for audio and graphics). Everything else is in E/E. Haven't tested sleep because I never use it. Ran through some small FCS2 projects and they worked very well and very fast.

HELP!!!

Rampage III Gene + 980x

Boots only with RC4. Clocks are running too fast... Otherwise system stable and sound. All updates up to 10.6.6.

RC5 tried all builds, all versions - it just hangs before graphics initialization. Boots fine in single user mode. From initial boot screen by the speed of progress rotating circle - clocks are fine, but it just hangs on graphics init (when rotating circle stops). Nvidia 8xxx with GraphicsEnabler Yes

Tried vanilla, legacy kernel - same result :D

Where to look? Thank you!!!

Can you post a copy of your modified Voodoo Driver. I have the same setup as you and I just want to be lazy. I know that the Audio drivers are not the same and I will have to change that but I dont know which voodoo driver is the latest version.
