cjhmdm
Hello everyone, I'm new here and would like to seek some assistance I've grown ever tired of windows (now using windows 7 x64) and would really like to get into the "hackamac" world. I have dones some specific research in regards to my hardware, and haven't gotten very far; so first and foremost, here are my machine specs: MSI 785GM-E65 Mobo AMD Phenom II x3 720BE CPU 4GB (2 x 2GB) Corsair DDR3 1333 RAM PowerColor HD3870 Video Card Using onboard sound/ethernet 2x 1TB Seagate HDD's 3x 250GB Seagate HDD's I think that's everything in regards to hardware, if i missed something please let me know and I'll get the info asap. My main concern is the motherboard itself. I've searched here as well as other forums/sites, but haven't been able to find any info related to compatibility (or incompatibility) of my motherboard. I did find this thread in regards to the 785G chipset, but I'm not sure where that leaves me exactly. I guess my first actual question is which build to install? I was considering Hazards Snow Leopard Client Server 10.6.2 but there seem to be some difficulties with similar chipsets (from what I could find). There's also iPC Leopard 10.5.6 which appears to have more hardware/driver support (and maybe more stable?) This is where I'm stumped. Not being able to find specific support for my hardware, so I'm unsure which way to go as far as which build to use Now, I'm not expecting anyone to have the exact build that will work (stable) for my exact hardware, but I'd like to know where to start. So if someone could point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks Update: I kinda completely forgot about the support for installing osx retail, and thus changed my search parameters a little and found this guide which is specific to my chipset at least. So I'll start here and see how things go.

cjhmdm
Your graphic card is not supported in Snow leopard. Is better try with Leopard. Yeah, you're right.. I got so tied up with trying to figure out motherboard support that I forgot to consider graphics compatibility. Thanks for the heads up. You most likely saved me a ton of time and headaches. dnyank1
Yea, try getting a NVIDIA 9xxx series, cheap and VERY available, and most importantly, VERY HIGHLY supported!

Yeah, I'm currently a few weeks away from building a system specifically for snow leopard, following this guide (I'm linking to my last reply for hardware specs). I'll have to settle for running leopard on this machine until I get the funds I need together.
