Has anyone got his/her hackintosh 10.6.4 working with nVidia 9600 GSO?

My system is working great with a nVidia 9500 GT 512MB video card. I tried upgrading my video to the eVGA GeForce 9600 GSO 768MB, but it is not working.

Posts in the internet say that it should work with the NVEnabler.kext, but I am not having any luck. The 9600 GSO boots, it get to the apple staring screen, but when it is supposed to display the desktop, the whole screen goes black.

any suggestions? I tried both NVEnabler.kext and NVEnabler 64.kext.

Hi,

I use "NVEnabler.kext" myself on my crappy 8400GS card and no problems, but as you said your not having any luck you could always try "NVinject.kext"? Not saying 100% it will work but it may work so it's worth a shot.

You can download this from:

http://www.kexts.com/view/431-geforce_gts_250.html

Hope this helps.

I'll give it a try. Which version should I use on my 768MB card, the 512 or the 1024 BM Injector?

The card works with GraphicsEnable activated in com.apple.Boot.plist

how do i activate GraphicsEnable in com.apple.Boot.plist ?

I hope this works, because I tried rebuilfing cache and repairing permission after adding NVinject.kext, Natit.kext, NVEnabler.kext, NVEnabler 64.kext, and Uinstaller "Apply EFI string for video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GS 284MB" and 8800GTX 768MB (since my card had 768MB).

None of these worked: i still get a black screen instead of the desktop after the gray apple loading screen with the circulating circle.

Open the com.apple.boot.plist file in your /Extra folder using a text editor (TextWrangler is good since it understand the file permissions). There should be a list of various flag settings for Chameleon. The relevant set you need is the sequence:

<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>

<string>Yes</string>

This worked with my 9600gso just fine (all resolutions available)- mine was a 512MB Asus card but it should also work on yours without other fusing. You may be advised to remove all the kexts you tried already so they don't do anything wacky.

I took a look at the com.apple.Boot.plist file with TextWrangler, and the GraphicsEnabler was already enabled. I still cannot get the 9600 GSO to work.

is there other variables I should look at? why does it look like I am the only one having this problem? Help!

I am stumped. Which version of the card do you have- is it DVI-VGA-HDMI or dual DVI? Also, are you plugging your monitor into the bottom DVI port? Usually that works most reliably, even if you use a DVI-VGA adapter dongle there.

Is there a graphics adapter injection string section in the DSDT you are using? I am wondering if there is a conflict somewhere (the DSDT injection is not needed if you use GraphicsEnabler=YES).

well, first of all, thank you sooooooo much for taking an interest in my predicament. I can't seem to find any other help anywhere else in the web, so your replies are so very much welcomed.

as for my hackintosh, I followed the ##### + ##### installation with a retail OS X Snow Leopard DVD. this is all I can think of. My hackintosh works flawlessly, as long as I am running it on my old 9500GT, 8300GS, or my very old 7300LE. It just does not like the 9600 GSO for some reason.

Thanks again for your help, and I hope I provided enough info to give enough clues to find a solution to this weird problem.

Thanks to the help of kind people in this forum, I finally got the 9600 GSO kind of working.

I just set the GraphicsEnabler to Yes, and removed all other graphics enabler (NVEnabler 64.kext in my case). it was the enabler that was killing me.

Now, the problem is that I cannot play games, because the games tell me that the video card is not recognized. System Profiler show me this:

Chipset Model: Unknown

Type: GPU

Bus: PCIe

Slot: Slot-1

PCIe Lane Width: x16

Is this how it is supposed to be? or it is supposed to know that I have a 9600 GSO? is there something additional I need to get it to be recognized properly? and not just recognized, but how can I make sure that the hackintosh is taking advantage of every feature this card has to offer? the whole pont of this new card is so that it will have a better 2D and 3D performance.

is there anything else I need to do?

thanks again for everyone who is helping. any additional help is greatly appreciated.

What version of Chameleon have you? And what boot file? (PC-EFI 10.5, 10.6 Asere bootloader etc.)

also, upon further probing, the games will play, but I have to put the hackintosh to sleep and re-awake it to work. in other words, if I start the SIMS 3, then the screen goes black, even though I can hear the game music/sounds. I press the sleep button, the hackintosh sleeps, i wake it up, then I get the game screen. system profiler still says this:

PS: according to xbench.app and my gameplay so far, the 9600 GSO is no that much faster than the 9500 GT. the other card that i have is the ATI Radeon X1950 Pro. I can't find ways to get that one to work under 10.6.4 either, but I wonder if that is a better card.

Thanks to everyone who helped get this nVidia 9600 GSO working under OS X 10.6.4!

it is amazing!

Special thanks to Giorgio Multi, who went out of his way to actual write some code to fix my problem.

If anyone else had my similar problem, I hope this threat is useful to you.

Basically, for the 9600 GSO 768MB, do not use NVEnabler 64.kext or any other graphics enabler.

I wish I knew exactly what Giorgi Multi did, but my hackintosh correctly identifies my graphics card.

today is a good day. it was hell trying to find a solution to my graphics card problem over the last few days. but today is good, thanks to very knowledgeable and generous people in this forum.

Thanks

Hello!

I have iAtkos s3 v2 with combo update 10.6.5, and my 9600gso 512Mb works weird — CI/QE works but when I drag windows it moves slowly and lags behind the mouse cursor. With 10.6.3 and NVEnabler 64.kext everything was fine.

Now with string or NVEnabler 64 card recognises, with GraphicsEnabler don't

And one more thing. When I trying calibrate display gamma does not changes.

Any ideas how to fix it?

I'm having the same problem with the 9600 GSO 768 DVI/DVI. I've tried to use both efi studio and osx86tools to help write a hex code for me. When I input the code in com.apple.boot.plist in /extra folder I see a nice 64bit boot screen forever. basically it never boots, just spins and looks pretty. using graphics enabled string i get a lousy 32mb vram. tried nvinject and nvenabler=black screen. -any help would be incredible.

gonna try using a dvi to vga adapter when i find it. now using just the dvi to hdmi

my system-

10.6.5

ga-ep35c ds3r

6gb ddr2 800mhz

PNY 9600 GSO 768

I got the card fully accelerated using the 8800GTS string generated from efi studio, but I'm not sure how to set the vram for 768 instead of 512. Also, to get past the black screen hang on boot, I have to use a dvi/vga cable instead of dvi/hdmi. btw I'm using the PNY 9600GSO 768 with dual dvi, and Chameleon RC5 ASERE that came with #####.
