JPCanaverde
Hi. Some time ago I installed Mac OS X 10.5.6 (Leopard) with iDeneb 1.6 to my external infernal hardware drive connected to my laptop with a USB adaptor. But sometimes it hangs up, maybe because the disk becomes too much hot and it stops. So I decided to install Snow Leopard retail on my internal hard drive. I created a HFS+ partition and in disk utility formatted it to Mac OS Extended Jornaled. Then, I grabbed my 8GB pendrive, and restored the Snow Leopard .dmg retail disk to it. Then I installed myHack to it, and rebooted. When I gotnto the installer I found out I could not install it on non-GUID partition schemes, but I didn't want to format my hard drive. So, I booted to Leopard again to find more information. After some googling, I found some guises that teached to install Snow Leopard to MBR partition schemes. So I downloaded the modfied OSInstall.mpkg and replaced the original in the USB drive by the modified. Ran it, selected to install on the partition I created, and waited. Almost on the end it sair Install failed. So I formated it again and looked at the guide again. It said that if it says Install Failed to customize the installation and disable printers and not needed languages. I did and got a install finished succeful at the end. So I booted Chameleon and booted off the partition I installed SL too. Seemed normal. Grey screen with Apple logo and a wheel... But then it becomes only a grey screen and hangs up at there. Tried booting into safe mode but it continues the same. In verbose mode I don't SEEM to find any errors but they may be there and I don't see them. I don't know what more to try... Can you help me? Thanks, JPCanaverde
J.B
even though the installer said failed on the first time, i usually still works, try to the same thing you did last time to get the failed message, then reboot and use the pen drive to get to SL and see if it works
JPCanaverde
When I got the install failed, I remembered what you said to ignore it. So I booted into it. Same grey screen. I thought that was because "the install failed". So I tried to get the "Install succeful", but same grey screen.
J.B
what errors are you getting in verbose boot?
JPCanaverde
As I said, I don't seem to find any errors... When I get home I'll boot into verbose again and see if I can find some... But I remembered it said something like: "The volume is journaled, can't check. Please use the-f option to force checking.". I did it, but it said the same. Not shore if it is an error, thought. J.B
hmm...well, keep in mind that an alternate method for installing to MBR is to install the another GUID disk, then copy the whole thing over to the MBR disk
JPCanaverde
Ok, the problem was that I didn't have any disk available to format, so I couldn't format it to GUID and copy the partition... I had bunches of GB of important data that I had no-place to backup, even if temporarily. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ But I can boot. I just waited 10-15 minutes (why does it take so long to boot? On Leopard it takes way more less time to boot) and it booted. And I can only boot with the MyHack Installer bootloader, so I installed it to my pendrive, but without the DVD Image. First, I didn't have Ethernet, Wireless, Audio, laptop keyboard, touchpad, webcam, and audio and mic jacks. I fixed the Ethernet with Intel82566MM.kext (not shore if it is my card, thought). I mean, it isn't totally fixed, because I have 20Mb of download speed and on speedtest.net it accuses 0.50Mb of download speed. It is very slow loading pages too. P.S. Audio was working on Leopard, when I installed: Apple HDA ALC 272.pkg AzaliaAudio.pkg ...and the Ethernet was working fine. The other problems I had in Leopard too. I tried a bunch of other cards to fix the other stuff, but nothing worked. Finally, my specs seen by System Profiler: Hardware Overview: Model Name: MacBook Model Identifier: MacBook4,1 Processor Speed: 2,13 GHz Number Of Processors: 1 Total Number Of Cores: 1 L2 Cache: 1 MB Memory: 2 GB Bus Speed: 533 MHz Boot ROM Version: MB41.0073.B00 SMC Version (system): 1.30f3 Serial Number (system): SOMESRLNMBR Hardware UUID: BF9BD1D5-CB53-520D-8A13-D97E6E93719A Intel High Definition Audio: Device ID: 0x14F15051 Audio ID: 12 Available Devices: Headphone: Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack External Microphone: Connection: 1/8-Inch Jack Speaker: Connection: Internal Internal Microphone: Connection: Internal ethernet: Type: Ethernet Controller Bus: PCI Vendor ID: 0x10ec Device ID: 0x8139 Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x103c Subsystem ID: 0x30d9 Revision ID: 0x0010 Webcam-101: Product ID: 0xc108 Vendor ID: 0x064e (Suyin Corporation) Version: 0.0a Serial Number: CN0316-MM00-OV01-VH-R32.01.01 Speed: Up to 480 Mb/sec Manufacturer: Suyin Optronics Location ID: 0xfd600000 Current Available (mA): 500 Current Required (mA): 500 Software Versions: Menu Extra: 6.0 (600.22) configd plug-in: 6.0 (600.27) System Profiler: 6.0 (600.9) Network Preference: 6.0 (600.22) AirPort Utility: 5.4.2 (542.23) IO80211 Family: 1.1 (110.19) (I followed some tutorial that mentioned IO80211Family.kext from 10.4.5 update and said that had Ethernet fully-working, but I couldn't do the last step, the kextload AirPort-something.kext) And didn't put the ALL system profiler in here, just the general and what't not working. Can you help me please? Also, can I solve the booting problem? I restarted a lot of times, so, it can't be the first-boot time... JPCanaverde
I added an entry for Mac in Grub2 using this guide: http://maketecheasier.com/create-a-mac-ent...rub2/2010/02/12 Now it boots way more faster. Really fast. The next step is to make Grub look as pretty as Chameleon using this guide: http://ubuntuguide.net/add-os-logos-into-g...menu-using-burg I'll do it when I have some patience. But the other problems still exist... Can you help me, please?
J.B
what are your specs? (put them in your signature or something) check specifically what ethernet you have built in them look for kexts for that specifically will also need your full specs to help with the other problems
JPCanaverde
I have specs on the Compaq website, but they don't specify the components, and I don't know where to find that information. Anyways, link for the specs: http://tinyurl.com/2utfgag I pasted the tinyurl because the original link was too long... But they aren't detailed specs... They don't say exactly what hardware I have. It only says the basic... And how do I look for the Ethernet I have built in? And according to System Profiler, the Ethernet is connected by PCI. JPCanaverde
Followed all the tutorials you gave me, but nothing worked. I removed AppleHDA and HDAEnabler, as you said. Really weird... On Leopard, I was with fast Ethernet without any additional kexts, and I got sound working with: Apple HDA ALC 272.pkg AzaliaAudio.pkg Isn't there a way to import those kexts from Leopard to Snow Leopard? AzaliaAudio causes kernel panic on Sl... I'll research about Apple HDA ALC 272. But is there a way to find out what was the kext that allowed fast ethernet on Leopard, and then copy it to SL? I still have Leopard installed, if needed.

JPCanaverde
What? How can I do that? My Bios doesn't have any settings for OS X...
JPCanaverde
Btw, Grub2 doesn't load up OS X anymore (just worked on the first boot...), it says: Can't find module. But now the MyHack Installer bootloader boots fast too... So I'm thinking of installing grub2 to Ubuntu root partition (but I don't know how am I going to convert it to a Primary partition without loosing data...) and MyHack bootloader to the MBR. Then, the MyHack boots Grub2, that boots Ubuntu (all this without notice, because I'll make Grub2 to start automatically Ubuntu). But first, I had to make shore the Windows partition was booting fine, before I tried to add anything else. I booted Windows 7, but it said the mach_kernel is missing. Probably it recognizes the Windows partion as a OS X partition, but I don't know why, because it shows the Windows logo on the partition... Can you help me booting Windows with MyHack? After I can do that, I'll try to boot Ubuntu with it too. I only don't use Chameleon because when I boot Snow Leopard, it gives me kernel panic. J.B
i think the easiest way to fix windows (though break others) it to boot into the windows install disc and repair the bootloader i think it would also work if you set the windows drive as an active partition and then add an entry to grub/myhack to boot fro system reserved (to partition you made active)
JPCanaverde
Windows boots just fine with grub, but doesn't with MyHack (but it boots with Chameleon). I'll try to boot OS X with Chameleon in verbose mode and try to see why it gives me kernel panic. Then I'll try to fix it... When I can boot Ubuntu, OS X and Windows with Chameleon, I'll install Chameleon to the MBR. How do I make Windows partition active? And if I repair the Windows bootloader, it will replace Grub, and I don't want to.

JPCanaverde
OSx86 is really weird, and unexpected. First, it booted slowly. Then, Grub did something and it now boots fast. I couldn't boot it with Chameleon. Now I can. And, I have fast internet! But, now my graphics don't work very well, LOL. System Profiler only recognizes 64Mb of graphics memory, the screen is a little weird (it fits perfectly my screen, but it looks like it is too zoomed), and the graphics-powered animations are a bit slow. Booting with Chameleon fixed the Internet speed problem somehow, but now I have the graphics problem... --' My graphics card: Video Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 Video Memory: Up to 358 MB How it shows in the System Profiler: Display: Type: GPU Bus: Built-In VRAM (Total): 64 MB of Shared System Memory Vendor: Intel (0x8086) Device ID: 0x2a02 Revision ID: 0x0003 Kernel Extension Info: No Kext Loaded Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888) Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes One problem fixed, another shows up... Why does Apple not allow to install OS X on PCs? It's promoting them! And we can install Windows on a Mac, why not install Mac on a PC? Can you help me, please? Thanks. JPCanaverde
LOL. I need to choose between fast Internet or fast Graphics and right screen resolution. I fixed the screen resolution and the graphics issue by changing the resolution in com.apple.boot.plist. But now the Internet is slow again. --' And I can't install Chameleon to the MBR... Grub no longer shows up, now only the Windows bootloader shows. I don't know how can I install Chameleon to the MBR... I did it like the guide sayed... Well, I'll fire up EasyBDC in Windows and see if I can do something.
JPCanaverde
Got ethernet working adding the EthernetBuiltIn key in apple.com.Boot.plist. But now, I wanted to install XCode... But it required 10.6.4, and I was at 10.6. Updated. After update, I see a black screen for a moment, and then it restarts... I booted in verbose mode and it said that VGA compatible controller : Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) didn't have the drivers, or something. I had to use the Pause key to read it, because verbose was really fast. Can you help me with this, please?
