Me already a Machead, 5 in the house and one PC, thought I'd try the Intel Dev Kit on it.

Getting the 1024x768x2 colours problem, despite setting "Graphics Mode" etc, any decent modes not even listed. I've upped gfx shared mem to 8mb in BIOS but as I've no other OS on the box I cant use the boot into Windows first trick.

Tried two other PCI gfx cards (no AGP on this POS), a Savage 4 and a Sapphire Radeon 9200SE, same result, 1024x748x32@60 and sore eyes. I do have a spare G3 with PCI 128mb Rage Pro - wonder if........

Now I only really want a decent refresh rate, and I heard that Intel 845GL should work with CI and QE even on this load of {censored}, or am I wasting my time?

Incidently I tried M$ Vista on this box too. Well...........

:) i tried vista too, Welcome to the dell dimension 2400 :D, I am in the progress of getting Intel 845gl to work, I have a sapphire radeon 9250 atm and runs quite well with platform=x86pc and both sound and networking work

His suggestion won't make your video cards work any better though. Only intel graphics have support, and its sort of iffy if its not a 915g or 945g (although 865g and some others also work). There are some threads on the early chipsets.

So, summing up, the PCI gfx cards I have won't do anything better than 1024x768x32@60, and the inbuilt 845GL won't work either? Or won't work reliably anyway...

All I really want is a viewable refresh rate, not bothered about CI or QE. I've read the threads re 845 chipset and I can't seem to get past 2 colours! Haven't tried the Darwin kexts yet however.

  • 6 months later...

buy a fx5200 PCI for osx

to get 845 graphics working on vista run the "intel extreme graphics 2" install under *xp* compatibility mode by right clicking on the install and selecting properties.

if you decide to buy the fx5200 then you will be able to use both mac and vista. i don't think there is a way to fix the color problem with the 845 chipset.
