eledu71
HI! My partitions was as this: HD1 (NTFS) Win7 Sys DATA ExXP (was an XP partition that I've wipped) HD2 (HPFS) OSX Sys OSX DATA So I've oppened EASEUS Partition Manager and choose to merge the partitions named DATA and ExXP. I've thought of taking the OSX hard disk off the computer case just in case, but hey, I've only choose to work on the NTFS partitions! Rebooted and since then I've never could boot or see my HPFS partition. It seems that, I dont know why, the Partition Manager wrote something on my HPFS partition! So, managed to boot from a leopard install DVD and when I went to Disk Tools it said that the hard drive containing OSX was empty! No partitions nor DATA! Diskwarrior couldnt find anything. I've found a friend of mine that has an app called StellarPhoenix that he run with success before, and trying it on my HD it found (and pretty quickly) my partitions and it seems to be recovering my data back (just tried to open a few ZIPs, RARs and PDF and everything seems to be ok). But you know it could be painful to re-install a whole customized system. It really tempts me to do a brand new (clear) install, but I really to busy, and I really dont have the time to spend on doing all this. So, is there anyway I can get my partitions back? Maybe TESTDISK? I've read somewhere it can recover partitions. Or mayb e there's another app that can write the partition info on the disk again... I dont know. Thanks in advance and have a nice day! oldtopman
LESSON This is why there all those warnings about backing up your data. Those of you who don't know of or don't have these programs would have lost all of your data. /offtopic As far as I know, there is nothing you can do. Sorry. Good day. Ooopss, Where did I said I didnt have backup? It's like three days old, so there's some work I wold like to recover because I dont have backup of that. I usually do a daily backup. But this time I was a couple of days behind... And my system backup was on a partition on the same disk. I know that's stupid, but when I've installed osx was just to test if it was reliable on a PC (I have two G5 at the studio). And as it proved to work flawlessly never had the time to make things as they should be. Anyway, StellarPhownix is recovering all my data. But, as I said, I dont want to install everything again... customize everything, etc. Just wanted to save time.
oldtopman
Get your files and reinstall. I'm crusin' for a brusin' myself as I have no backups. Anywhere. Of anything. I've "lost everything" three times. I am apparently stupid as I don't seem to have learned anything. /offtopic did that program just restore files from the windows partition or did it get the OSx86 partition as well. My windows partitions are in perfect shape. Nothing happened to them. And the data that I had in OSX partition was all recovered by the program. So, only rest to install everything again..... Ooopss, Where did I said I didnt have backup? It's like three days old, so there's some work I wold like to recover because I dont have backup of that. I usually do a daily backup. Finally, as I said, StellarPhoenix recovered all my data, with filenames, folder structure, everything intact. And then, once I had all my data back, I tried Testdisk http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk and guess what? In less than an eye blink I had my OSX partitions back! No reinstall needed! This are the things that makes me learn something new everyday. But in the meantime I had a lot of suffering, he. Hope this info helps somebody ocasionally. Cheers. Master_T
TestDisk can recover lost partitions, I used it a couple of times and it worked quite well. Just let it do a full scan of the HD (when preliminary scan is finished choose "look deeper") and when it's finished choose the correct partitions from the list using the right arrow key (make sure you select the correct partitions, because the program will also show you old partition entries). When you have selected all the correct partitions hit enter and TestDisk will rebuild the partition table.

I've only done the preliminary scan as my partitions were recognized correctly, and I never had "old" partitions on this drive before. I must add you have to run DISK UTILITY after recovering your partition to check drive for integrity.
