So I have been scanning these forums and the wiki for a couple days now, and it seems that most configurations require some serious testing with different versions of boot loaders, kexts, etc.

What I was hoping for was a plug and play system using a installation system like Hazard, that requires no current mac, no extra installations, no additional kexts (aside from those included on the hazard install), all on a budget.

I'm not sure if this is even possible after scanning through the hardware compatibility section. And most people on here are willing to spend $1000 on a system, to which I would just go out and buy a mac in that case.

If your up to the challenge, post your thoughts on a system that may not be powerful, but is a budget, and simple way to run OSx86 on a PC.

Please refer me to any threads that may have this info already, though I was not able to find any.

There isn't exactly a plug-and-play system, but there are installation methods which work very well if you've got supported hardware. To wit:

Kakewalk - primarily for X58 motherboards

##### - primarily for P55 motherboards

As far as cheap builds go, look here and here.

Besides, $1,000 for a hackintosh is much cheaper than the $2,000 you'd need to get an almost-comparable iMac.

Wow, that was exactly what I was looking for. thanks!

As far a "plug and play" I was trying to say that for the install that already has certain kexts on the install program that are easy to identify based on the hardware used. Nothing that needs to be added via another mac, second partition, during boot, etc.

Your timing could not be more perfect. Today we have TonyMacX86, we have H55/P55 Gigabyte mother boards that have been documented as hackintosh friendly, we have i3, i5, and i7s to choose from and best of all we now have Apple OS X 10.6.3 DVD available for a very reasonable price along with OS X 10.6.4 Combo Update. It has never been easier to have a good experience. And if for some reason you are set on a X58 machine (or EP45 LGA 775 socket), you have Kakewalk which I can attest to works very well.

Also, a personal bias, you could check out the Zotac H55-ITX WiFif system that I and others have documented here in this section of the web site.
